They certainly would have a longer history as they started in 1863.
If that last match was anything to go by it's going to be worth watching so I hope that they get a good crowd for the club's sake.
…… irrespective of who is not available will be well-coached and well-conditioned and will treat the match as a very serious contest.
Agree Bruce, they will take it very seriously and all the more this year.
The Shute Shield will end earlier in 2014 due to the commencement of the NRC in August, which means that the Super Rugby blow-ins who usually appear at the money end of the season will likely play fewer games.
I say "likely" because I haven't cross-checked with the Super Rugby draw—and a revised version of the Shute Shield draw won't be available for a while I expect, anyway.
On the face of it it looks like the players who would normally be Grand Final 2nd Graders will be playing the bulk of the season in the Ones.
Therefore the game against Brisbane Easts will take the form of a first grade trial and they will all have the motivation of wanting to run-on in Round One, then hold their spot.
That said, the 2nd Grade 2013 Grand Final Sydney Uni team, most of whom will be appearing against Brisbane Easts, had some good players.
Not too many club 1st Grade teams would have had a better front row of King, Wilan and Talakai during the 2013 Super season. Flanker Melrose and lock Heslop were handy players as were 12. McMahon and 15. Nathan Trist, who got on the park for the Waratahs last year.
They'll play some good rugby.
