Agreed, he is a hard player and has had little or no regard for his body at times and to his own detriment he has had a few injuries whilst playing at 13. Being a little smaller I think he is better suited at wing.

The more ball in Perese hands the better is my reasoning. I watched him play there at school too and loved it. Obviously my backline was everything being ideal with sevens players being released. I find the possible case of McNamara the most interesting one. He played 10 and 15 at school and then played u20's last year on the wing? He's someone who needs to get the ball in his hands as good things usually tend to happen, a bit like what you'd want in a sevens player. Fancy that.....

Earlier today I posted that that the Super Rugby teams always have first call on the Under 20 players but I was wrong. I have probably mentioned it before in this thread too.

The real goss is that that every age-eligible Super Rugby contracted player will be available for the Worlds, but that doesn't mean that they all will be available for the Oceania tournament, which straddles Rd. 10 and Rd. 11.

If they are in their Super Rugby matchday 23 for those weekends they won't be able to play at Bond - there could be some coming and going.

I don't think that Simon Cron will have a great need for the Sevens players except for Hutchison, who is probably the best player in the Aussie 7s currently, or close enough - and Kennewell, who is playing his best Sevens now, and was not the worst for the Aussie U20s last year on the wing.

But if any Sevens player is needed they won't be withdrawn from the Sevens Series: they will fly directly from London, where the final Round is, to Georgia.

I've been spruiking Hutchison since he was 14 or 15 and he started for the Aus Schools Firsts in his U16 year at both 13 and wing.

Everybody says he is too small to play XVs, except maybe at 9 they say, I read it every year; but he'd make it work. I've seen a lot of good U20 13s and wingers who were small.

I wouldn't worry about his adapting to XVs - he'd be one of the smartest guys on the field.

It would have been awesome to see how Aus Schools 2014 would have gone if Mafi, Hutchison, Crichton, Rodda had not been ruled out due to injury. Also would have loved to have seen Mack Mason and Maddocks that year too.

We really shouldn't moan about not being prepared or not spending months together pre JWC when we quite happily are looking to drop players into the World Cup arriving in Georgia via Paris (sevens) not even knowing your team mates names.

Good point and I'm sure they'll take that into account, and maybe they won't take any Sevens players.

Or maybe some of the Sevens players, who have a four-week break between Singapore and Paris, will train and play the odd game at Bond in the Oceania tournament.

They shouldn't be give a huge load though because the Paris tournament is a week after Bond finishes.

I bet the coaches Cron (U20s) and Friend (Sevens) will be having a chat right now about who would be suitable for Georgia - if any.

Very hard selection GTW, Perese will be starved on the wing. Very solid runner and solid defender. Needs to play more role both on defence and attack. Boys playing in Oceania are gona need to perform to stay alive come Oceania!

Did Kennewell play centre at school? I remember Hutchinson having unbelievable hype around him, he just seemed graceful along the surface. A real class player. Obviously with the comings and goings it's going to be hard to put a team together and get some proper combinations before Georgia, but there is some real talent in that backline. Tuipuloto is someone I'm super keen to see this year. Maddocks is an interesting one who I think is probably best served on the wing

You do need someone with a boot at 15, Ngamanu doesn't have a good boot but his speed and agility out wide on the wing would be well served. Madocks would be the best bet at fullback, he did well there last year.

Yeah I've seen Kennewell play inside and outside centre for Newington, and even at fullback, but his best position was 13.

Hutchison was almost exclusively a 13 at Riverview and going back a few posts - Jaffer-Williams played mostly wing but moved to 13 last year at Joeys to accommodate somebody else on the wing, and to get his hands on the ball more.

YJW was brilliant in both positions. I'm sure he will be contending strongly for the Aus U20 team next year with a bit of Colts rugby behind him and maybe a bit of Grade.

Crikey, the Rebels must think a lot of Esei Ha'angana. The big lock is still only 17 and yet they made him the captain of their U20s; and now he's off to South Africa with the seniors, although he's not a contracted player.

Mind you, their second-rowers have been going down like flies.

He didn't take my eye in the U20 game I saw him play but that may have been more the fault of my eye than of his ability.

Also he didn't look to have the ideal build for a lock - not rangy, and arguably over-weight - though maybe it's my bad eye playing up again.

Tuipulotu is a known "commodity" but the other two touring Rebels U20s won't be able to press their case for Aus U20 selection since they are not available for the Oceania tournament.

And the 28 for the Worlds will be named after that tournament and before the final camp at the AIS in Canberra - so they must hope that they have made a big enough impression already.
