The SA sides have been a surprise for me. I said it here and I'll say it again.

Over the last 5 years the SA forwards have gotten a lot fitter. The old ploy was to burn them on the outside once they got tired. The backs got a hell of a lot better during that time frame as well. But the noticeable difference for me this year is that the SA sides are trusting their backs to use the ball. Its making them bloody dangerous.

The interplay by the Cheetahs between the backs and forwards and their ability to move the ball from side to side on the weekend was something.

All SA teams have the Kings barrier pushing them. You'll find the bottom teams quite desperate to get away from the bottom place. John Mitchell has done some great work with the Lions and I just wish to see them perform against NZ and Aus sides like they do against SA sides. They play so well and with a lot of passion against the SA side just to let go the next week against overseas opposition. This week they have the Crusaders and I'd love to see them beating them. They will have Jantjies back for this match and maybe a few from their long injury list. The Cheetahs have turn the corner, this week is their last tour match and usually SA sides have the one foot on the plane sickness. They will be much better once back in Osfontein and with a few braais behind the belt. Stormers and Brutes clash will be the usual brutal derby between south and north and expecting at least the Stormers to tour well. Our youngsters have been great thus far and with Burger and Elstadt back hopefull we will keep on producing. Still feel the Stormers problem is at the breakdowns. They dont provide quick turn over ball for the backs and seem to dont string enough phases together. The reason for this is that we dont have a fetcher flanker like Francois Louw and have to many forwards in the backline on the defensive line. Our tight five do the 1st phases very well at the moment and hopefull we can improve as the tournament goes on. The Brutes are a bit up and down and the Sharks for some reason struggling. Score a try the one moment and then relax and let in another. Still early days but at the very least all the SA sides provide a healthy stream of youngsters coming through at this level who will give our new coach something to work for the future.

Not sure where to put this. Heard it on the news this morning and thought that was a tragedy.

May be PB or some of the other SA posters could fill us in.
Ja this is very tragic and always sad to experience lost of life this way. Things like this are always a reminder of bigger things in life then rugby and sport. Condolenses to all the families and my prayers goes out for the love ones who have to go through this tough times.

Once the Cheetahs are back in SA they'll have Juan Smith back at 6. With Brussouw at 7 they will become very formidable opponents.

Yes the Cheetahs loose forwards will be strengthened when Smith is available, however this will not change anything positionally for Brussouw. Openside flanker's in SA wear number 6, Blindside's wear number 7. Brussouw will keep wearing 6 and Smith will wear 7.

I have noticed that Brussouw at times has been packing down at no.8 in the scrums, particularly when the Cheetahs have the feed.

Lets get back to the match of the weekend between the Stormers and Brutes. This match will be decide in the tight five and the Stormers sure have patch up this area with the two young fatties, Ginga and Malherbe plus Etsebeth in lock. In years gone by we lost it here but this year we won it here and the big test will be against the Brutes tight five. This will be both packs measurement for higher honours. Expect Newlands to be chock and block and have the Pampas vs Boland as curtain raisor.

KAAPSTAD.

“Ek leer elke dag iets nuuts by Tiaan.

Hy is tegnies ’n goeie skrumwerker.

“My pa was ’n baie groot invloed.

Daar is niks groter voordat ’n man by toetsvlak uitkom nie.

Geez, with 4 houses and a servo, I wouldn't have thought Pampas could get a side together this year. ;)

Pampas is a very small town on the Gore Highway between Toowoomba and Millmerran.
