I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the crowd number on Saturday night.

Ditto.
If we can't at least treble the crowd we got for Aust. Baabaas v Canada (8,000 plus), I will be surprised.
Seating capacity is 27,400 plus 190 wheelchair positions.

it will be a much better spectacle either live or on TV than that shit viewing at Subi in Perth. The camera men were shithouse and the cameras so far away. Until they get a rugby stadium, that is, a rectangle then piss off all televised matches in the west. I don't mean to be provocative but the viewing was just shithouse

I'd suggest with modern cameras, it probably had less to do with the position of the cameras and more to do with west australian cameramen. They would all be Mens Netball (AFL) specialists.

Either way, you would think they would pull in a eastern states editing crew to try and make sense of it.

Oh, and you don't get to complain. Try paying $100 for a ticket with views worse than those shown on TV. But sadly, due to the complete dominance of mens netball over here, they are building a new oval stadium and just doing a makeover on ME Bank Stadium.

Groucho, growing the game, that's what the IRB 7s tournamant is for. This is a Wallaby test match. We have huge crowds in AFL loving towns such as Perth and Melbourne. We're told the GC produces an abundance of rugby talent, JOC (James O'Connor), Sharpe, Shipperley etc. The region even put in a bid for a Super Rugby side.

I am very supportive of the GC getting the 7s and having this Test. I'm patient for the 7s crowd to build, but not a Test Match. I hope the crowd is close to a sell out for Saturday night, but if it isn't, places such as Canberra and Melbourne, who missed out this year, should get their chance.

Sports Administrators have looked at the GC as a promised land, but if the people on the GC don't want to travel to the stadiums then it's time to look elsewhere. It's not about storming off in a huff, it's about having some pride and not hoping year after year that people turn up.

I hope the people in SE QLD who can make it to the game, make the effort to support top level rugby in the region. If any of you live in the region take a few mates. It would be great to have a full stadium for the players.

Canberra has had a few test matches in recent years and crowd figures weren't exactly flattering...

Melbourne has had its fair share of test matches in recent years including some massive games... Rebels have wetted the rugby fans appetite down there in the short term.

The Gold Coast is a key emerging market and the ARU need to give rugby greater exposure in the region if they want growth.

The game hasn't even been played yet you are already criticizing the move... How about we wait and see how it turns out..

C'mon people of the Gold Coast - get off your arses and get to Robina!

JO'N - if this doesn't sell out, it's your fault for shit promo work! Not one bikini girl! Not even one!

Everyone knows that 2 hot Argie chicks in blue & white bikinis + 2 hot Aussie chicks (Hawko & Bingle) in green & gold bikinis running along the beach & passing a ball to shirtless Quade & Diggers equals sold out stadium! It's not rocket science - It worked for Baywatch, it would've worked for rugby!

Would be way better than those Castrol ads too!

Not criticizing the move to the GC at all, I was very supportive of the ARU's decision. Just saying that if the people on the GC want more tests they need to support the decision and go to the game. It's a 27k seat stadium it should be full. Newcastle had 21k for Aust. Vs Scotland in atrocious conditions. The ARU said that the GC game was on track for 20k, which means a few days out ticket sales were it sitting around 17k.

Perhaps I should have taken a different tack with my initial post. I don't want the GC to be denied Tests matches. I want them to attend in huge numbers. Look at this as a call to arms. A full Skilled Park for a Wallaby test would be brilliant for the game and I would love it to be a regular stop off for travelling teams. Everyone, if you live in the area go to the game with a group. If you don't live near the GC and you know people who do, call them and insist they go.

But how good was the lighting, I thought it was a day game when it first came on!

What is the fundamental issue though, GC fans been uninterested or lack of advertising and GC fans been unaware..

It would be wrong to deny GC rugby fans test matches based on one games crowd (which hasn't been played yet) potentially as a result of poor marketiting.

That article is applicable to a group trying to establish a professional sporting team on the GC.. However I believe promotional games like Wallabies and 7's help to promote the game and potentially stimulate growth at grass roots levels.. Which is quite different to trying to establish a permanent professional presence..

Also it should be acknowledged to the average rugby fan Argentina are a relatively unknown quality.

Yes they are ranked in the top 10, but they have lacked featuring in any regular rugby against the Wallabies over the past 10 years(was 2003 the last?), the RWC is the only time any Aussie rugby fan would have scene them play.

Agree TOCC.

However we should also recognise that a reasonable number of spectators are likely to be coming down from Brisbane.

GC is a very different place, and I think it will be hard for any sporting code to really establish themselves there. Transient group, high level of tourists. Victorians on holiday and retiring, locals likely to watch league, plenty of kiwis and saffas likely to support Union, then a bunch of people that only really care about surfing. It comes down to a catchment of less than 100k per sport!

Does anyone else have the feeling that this could be a banana peel game for the Wallabies? I hope I am wrong but I just dont have a good feel that we will be successful this week.

The factors in our favour is that the Argies will be physically beat up after last week, but with so many of them playing in France I think they will be able to handle week in week out test football.

The factors against is that the style that los Pumas play is such that we wont get much flow on. This has an Ireland feel to it for me.

That seems to be the general consensus, but I actually feel the opposite. I'm expecting us to put a few points past them on Saturday

I was hoping that I would get that optimistic vibe by the end of this week, but the negative vibe has been getting stronger all week.

Yeah this doesn't feel like Ireland/Samoa/Scotland at all. Those were predictable, the opposition were really up for it and the Wallabies were under prepared. The Pumas are tired and will fade in the dry and hot conditions. They're looking forward to going home.
