What a bloody magic game of rugby that was...had everything. Got to feel for Tasman coming so close to their first ever final, but a great story for Otago with their dramas from earlier this year.
Some interesting bloody reffing in that Southland game. The Stags were 10 metres out with 5 minutes to go and the ref sits himself in the Southland back line and gets in the way, and then gives Counties the ball because of the subsequent forward pass. What a muppet. Counties went on to score 1 minute later to break the back of Southland then added 2 more. Scrums were an absolute lottery as well. Counties can consider themselves bloody lucky to get a win with their performance.
I must of watched different game to you ACR, Counties looked quite a bit stronger to me.
I see Haoni MacDonald had a heart attack during game, medics were working on him on sideline and saved him apparently!!
Induced coma really just means he is on a ventilator in Intensive Care and they use it to help control respiration / blood pressure and heart rate etc...
It is not unusual after a cardiac arrest, which it sounds like he had.
It is obviously still a serious condition, but hopefully he pulls through.
My thoughts go to him, his family and his Southland team-mates. A terrible thing to happen.
On the ITM Cup - how were Canterbury in extra time?? 24 unanswered points to win 51-27 over Taranaki.
Some great footy played in the parts of both games that I saw today.
Oh, for a 3rd tier.
I agree cyclo, though I was going for the Naki, I just had to applaud Canterbury, as you say that 20 minutes of extra time was pretty good, I really enjoyed the 2nd half/extra time as basically that all I saw. the Counties/Southland game was a ripper too from what I saw.

Maybe in the last 10-15 minutes, when it counts I guess. Up until then it was fairly even, with Southland leading all the way up until the 69th minute. My comment was more a reflection of Counties performing below what they achieved during the fixtures. I shouldn't have said lucky, they just made it hard for themselves.
Sad news about MacDonald, here's hoping all turns out well for him.
Completely agree with you about that forward pass call against Southland ACR, ref should've blown it up and said he got in the way. Counties finished with 4 tries in 10 minutes, unbelievable stuff. Canterbury with the best extra time performance you'll ever see, and all 4 semis in the balance during the last 10 minutes, hopefully the finals are equally good.
First ever Canterbury v Auckland final too, I do believe. Thoughts are with Haoni MacDonald.
Taranaki were never going to make it in overtime really. They have a great team but there forwards were just so imbalanced. They had 4 locks in there starting pack, how many locks can dominate for 100 minutes?
Interestingly they actually looked the fitter side in normal time, they were on top of Canterbury in the last 15 minutes. I think their problem was when they struggled to put any points on early in ET from a lot of possession it killed them and then cheaply conceding the first try just opened the floodgates as they knew they were stuffed.
ACR, Brown may of made a couple of mistakes, but Counties were much better team , especially in 2nd half.
Was interesting to hear the interview with Adongo at end of game, what did you learn during your season in ITM cup, his answer was to play for your teammates, not for yourself, a good lesson in rugby.
Actually would like to add, I really enjoy the commentary of Sumo Stevenson & Willie Lose.
