This weekend its north vs south, Bulle vs WP and WP all CC teams still unbeaten in their logs. Can the Bulls break that? The Bulls U19s also unbeaten, so one will fall on saturday.

Also good to see the Kings provinces topping the first division log.

The WP vs Brutes match is shaping up nicely. Look like Kirschner, Meisiekind (Olivier)and SlangKos (Potgieter) will join the Brutes team and Flo WeePee.

[/quote]Thought I would have got some questions regarding the Provincial Amateur Competition running. These are the real rugby players in SA, those that travel the extra mile for the game of rugby and dont earn a cent for their hard work.

WP Site
The SARU Provincial Amateur Competition kicks off this week, with Vodacom Western Province playing Griqua-Rural in Springbok on Saturday 7 August at 15.45.
The format of the competition is as follows:

All fourteen (14) provincial teams and nine (9) regional teams from Border, Blue Bulls, Eastern Province, Falcons, Griffons, Griqualand West, Leopards, Mpumalanga and Natal are divided into three sections - North, Central and South, as follows:

NORTH [7]
Blue Bulls
Blue Bulls (Limpopo)
Falcons (East)
Golden Lions
Leopards Amateur
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga Rural
Kwa-Zulu Natal

CENTRAL [7)
Falcons (South) Boland
Free State
Free State Rural
Griffons
Griffons Rural
Griqualand West
Kwa-Zulu Natal Rural
Western Province

SOUTH [8]
Boland
Border
Border Rural
Eastern Province
EP Rural
Griqualand West Rural
SWD Eagles
Western Province

The teams will play a single round in each section. The teams in the North and the South sections will play four (4)/three (3) home matches or three (3)/four (4) away matches. The teams in the Central section will play three (3) home and three (3) away matches.
In the old days some of them were provinces like North Western Cape now called Griquas Rural, exct. Plattelandse spanne.

Beast on bench for Sharks
2010-08-11 18:04Email | Print

Tendai 'Beast' Mtawarira (Gallo Images)

Durban - Sharks coach John Plumtree has made several changes to his starting XV that comprehensively beat the Lions in the Absa Currie Cup last weekend, but has still been able to name Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai "Beast" Mtawarira on the bench despite their involvement in the Springbok training camp this week.

The Sharks face the bottom-placed Leopards in Rustenburg on Friday night, and will be without Boks Jannie du Plessis, Ryan Kankowski, John Smit and JP Pietersen, as well as Jean Deysel, who has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury.

Nevertheless, Du Plessis and Mtawarira will provide a boost off the bench, while another Bok in Odwa Ndungane returns from injury and comes straight into the starting line-up for Pietersen.

The only other change in the backline sees Rory Kockott get his first start since week one, and he replaces Charl McLeod, who drops to the bench.

In the loose-trio, Willem Alberts, Keegan Daniel and Jacques Botes are the expected starting combination, while Mike Rhodes has earned a recall among the substitutes.

Former Western Province lock Ross Skeate is given a second start, this time alongside Alistair Hargreaves, while up front, another new recruit, Eugene van Staden, will wear the No 3 jersey.

Sharks Team:

15 Louis Ludik, 14 Odwa Ndungane, 13 Stefan Terblanche (capt), 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Patrick Lambie, 9 Rory Kockott, 8 Willem Alberts, 7 Keegan Daniel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Alistair Hargreaves, 4 Ross Skeate, 3 Eugene van Staden, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Patric Cilliers. Replacements: 16 Bismarck du Plessis, 17 Tendai Mtawarira, 18 Steven Sykes, 19 Michael Rhodes, 20 Charl McLeod, 21 Monty Dumond, 22 Riaan Swanepoel

Hope the Beast and Bismarck gets enough time on the pitch, we need them next weekend.

The quality of the rugby in the CC is very good this year.

Shit the WP team looks good. They just kept going. The great thing for them is that they still have a core of players together through CC back into Super 15.

They will be better next year and are a real chance for the S15.

Blou jy maak my bang.

The good thing about WP is that U21 team of them. There is some unbelievable talent in that team and I like the look of that backline. Coetzee use two U21s on the bench in the senior team every game and it will pay big dividends for them. Pitty they dont use JJ Engelbrecht on the wing this week. The kid is big and strong and have wheels, Sadie & Stokkies in midfield , van Aswegen nearly find him in the WP squad and Schreuder was VC for SA U20 this year. Wish Pie Eater will just go north to give the three Paarl scrummies a go next year in Super Rugby.

WP undefeated after 6 rounds in their logs (Premier/U21/U19s). This weekend it will be their big test against the Guppies in Durban. The Guppies will only missing Jannie Doep, Bismarck and Beast will play tho so a improvement on John Smit. WP will miss 7 players (Muskiet, Habana, Jean, Mossie, JdJ, Schalkie, Flo) and will be glad Pie Vreter is not in their team. Myself will book money on our U19s but the other two may lose their undefeat status on saturday. Vokket All Blacks vs Boks 17h00 and then this one 19h00, cant get better then this.

I really enjoy the Brutes vs WeePee match and sure the Brutes surprised me no ends. Such a young team from them and they nearly got this one. Altho WeePee for some strange reason decided against taking their penalties in the first half and camping on the Brutes tryline only led 6-3 at half time and I just knew by then this is going to be a close one. 47,850 Newlands faithfull carried them through this one and show CurrieCup rugby is alive and strong in SA, more then ever. The North vs South SA derby rivalry will always bring out the best of both these teams and even with out their big star players show we have a hunger in SA for Currie Cup rugby. Even the two youth CC matches (U19s and U21s) show some hard and brute and tight rugby.

The Lions also show some caracter coming from behind and beating the Tin Ears on saturday. They had a whole bunch of Kiwi support out there on saturday, Ian Jones and that Cantab has been scrummy came out specially to support Carlos and his Lions. They did respond in style tho clinching it in the last movement of the match.

Who will be left for the Guppies at 9 next year? The young blonde bloke? They should pinch Petoors.

How did Lambie go at 10 this weekend? Dooes he look like the business?
