Paarl how'd de Jong go at 13?
Boet sorry, I have a huge Paarl InterSchool babbelaas and havent watch much other rugby on the weekend. Watched WP tho and thought de Jongh played excellent in 13. Think its his best position and had quite a few good runs , one ending in a try.

Here is a summary of the weekends matches with compliments from SARugby.com
Currie Cup: Round four review
Sunday, August 01 Print | Send Submit The Vodacom Blue Bulls got their Absa Currie Cup title defence back on track at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday following their 32-18 victory over the Xerox Lions in Johannesburg.
The win ensured that the defending champions ended a two game losing streak in the 2010 competition while the hosts however conceded their third consecutive defeat this season.

Flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter produced a flawless kicking performance at Coca-Cola Park and added 27 points for the Vodacom Blue Bulls. The pivot scored a try and kicked six penalties while he also converted both tries scored by the Pretoria side. The talented Vodacom Blue Bulls winger Gerhard van den Heever added the other five-pointer for the visitors.

Xerox Lions winger Deon van Rensburg and loose forward Warren Whiteley were the try scorers for the hosts who played an attacking brand of rugby throughout the game.

However tigerish defence by the Pretoria side ensured that their Johannesburg opponents conceded numerous turnovers and penalties at critical periods of the game. SA Under-20 flyhalf Elton Jantjies kicked two penalties and converted Whiteley’s five-pointer.

The victory for the defending champions ensured that they ended week four in fourth position on the Absa Currie Cup log with 11 points. The Vodacom Blue Bulls are now seven points behind the log-leading Vodacom Western Province who continued their impressive run in the 2010 Absa Currie Cup following their convincing 54-13 win over the Barloworld Toyota Pumas at Newlands on Friday.

It was the Cape side’s second consecutive five-point victory of 2010 competition after they bagged maximum points from their 42-23 result against the Platinum Leopards in Potchefstroom last Friday.

Province secured the bonus point for scoring four tries at the stroke of half time when captain Anton van Zyl latched on to a pass from scrumhalf Conrad Hoffmann before breaking the Pumas defence to score his five-pointer. Flanker Pieter Louw though was the first WP player to add his name to the try-scoring sheet before Springbok winger Gio Aplon dazzled the Newlands crowd with his two tries.

Vodacom Western Province coach Allister Coetzee afforded many of his young bench players such as flyhalf Lionel Cronje, scrumhalf Louis Schreuder and winger JJ Engelbrecht game time in the second half.

The hosts conceded two tries after the break which was scored by the Barloworld Toyota Pumas’ Shaun Venter and Torsten van Jaarsveld. However WP managed to add three further five-pointers. Louw, thanks to the efforts of his forward pack, mauled his way over the try line to score his second five-pointer of the evening, Engelbrecht dotted down in the corner while former SA Under-20 flyhalf Cronje scored an intercept try.

Province flyhalf Willem de Waal notched up 15 points by kicking three penalties and three conversions. Cronje converted his own try and the second five-pointer scored by Louw. Elgar Watts kicked one penalty for the Barloworld Toyota Pumas.

The Sharks secured their first away victory of the 2010 Absa Currie Cup following their stunning 25-13 win over the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Centre Patrick Lambie, who represented the SA Under-20s during this year’s IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina, scored 20 points for his provincial side which included two tries during the final 10 minutes of the game played at Vodacom Park.

The Sharks’ other try scorer was prop Eugene van Staden who also crashed over the try line during the second half. Lambie was also responsible for his side’s goal-kicking and added two penalties and two conversions.

Handling errors at crucial periods of the game denied the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs many scoring opportunities throughout the game. As a result the hosts were only rewarded with one try which was added by scrumhalf Tewis de Bruyn in the first half. Flyhalf Louis Strydom kicked the conversion and also slotted two penalty kicks at goal.

In the other Absa Currie Cup game of the weekend, the GWK Griquas secured their third win of the 2010 competition following their 41-27 victory over the Platinum Leopards in Potchefstroom on Friday evening.

Flyhalf Naas Olivier who passed the 600-point mark in his Absa Currie Cup career after he added 21 points in the game, scored a try and kicked two penalties and five conversions.

The Kimberley side’s other tries were added by Frikkie Spies, Sarel Pretorius and Bjorn Basson who ran in two five-pointers in the match.

Michael Bondesio also scored a brace of tries for the Platinum Leopards while Palm Koch ran in the hosts’ third try of the game. Clayton Durand (2) and Niell Jacobs converted the tries. Both Jacobs and Durand also kicked respective penalty kicks.

The result for the Platinum Leopards though ensured that they remained at the bottom of the log and is still the only team who are yet to secure a log point in this season’s Absa Currie Cup.

Meanwhile the Vodacom Blue Bulls, The Sharks and the Platinum Leopards all secured victories this weekend in the 2010 Absa Under-21 Championship.

SA Under-20 winger and Springbok Sevens talent Sampie Mastriet scored two tries at Coca-Cola Park for the Vodacom Blue Bulls U21s as they secured a 35-26 win over their Xerox Lions counterparts while in Bloemfontein; The Sharks U21s achieved a 27-23 victory over the Free State at Vodacom Park on Saturday. The Platinum Leopards also recorded a 34-18 convincing win over the Boland in the other Absa Under-21 Championship game of the weekend.

In the Absa Under-19 Championship, Vodacom Blue Bulls U19 lock JJ Breedt who represented the SA U18s during last year’s High Performance programme scored two tries as his side defeated the Xerox Lions (38-20) in Johannesburg on Saturday. The Vodacom Western Province U19s were too strong for the Griffons and outclassed the hosts 63-3 in Welkom while The Sharks also stunned the Free State U19s 33-13 in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Brute team vs Lui Perde:
Blou Bulle vs. Luiperds: Jaco van der Westhuyzen; Gerhard van den Heever, Jaco Pretorius, Stefan Watermeyer, Hayden Groepes; Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Francois Hougaard; Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Dewald Potgieter, Derick Kuün ©, Juandré Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Bees Roux, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Jaco Engels. Reserwes: Bandise Maku, Frik Kirsten, Fudge Mabeta, CJ Stander, Dustin Jinka, Francois Brummer, Stephan Dippenaar

Got some interesting info on the name I bolded. Frik Kirsten, a formal SA U20 TH fatty, dad use to captain the Lui Perde, his granny played for them and his great Granny was a former Transvaal (Lions0 captain. His Granny on mothers side was Elmore Hudson played in the 20s for Transvaal and captained them.

The Kirstens hold a very unique SA record, they are the only granny, dad and son who played in the Administration Trophe finals in SA schoolboy rugby. Granny Frik Volkies, dad Barend and uncle Elmore played for Volkies against Nelspruit and Frik Jnr for Affies vs Klofies.

Here is the three Kirstens

Paarl - a granny is an ouma :)

You mean Grandpa. ;)

How's Juandre Kruger been going. You think he is the possible third best no 5 after Martield and Bekker? I don't rate Hargreaves so I hope Kruger comes through.

Is Bees looking strong?

I haven't seen a Bulls game yet this season. Hopefully we get one on Friday.

Oh vok got the Granny lot totally wrong.

Anyway Blou I havent watched much rugby last weekend, had only InterSchools running from one field to the other. Think Kruger only played this weekend, Bees dunno but they comes to town next weekend. WP are in for a rough three weekends with Griquas away, Brutes home and Guppies in Debin. Make or break stuff for them.

Saw Schalk Burger Snr at the InterSchools.

Interesting to see the BizKid ,van Deventer getting a start at Griquas. That one is going to bite John Mitchell and pretty sure he'll be poached to one of the bigger provinces once the CC ends. You simply dont ignore young talent like that, Spencer obvious love the Derbin nightlife and on the bench ipo Herkie.

Game 18: Blue Bulls v Leopards: Blue Bulls by 31

Is the squad out? Will be glad to see him there? Probably more happy if it can be Duvenhage but think Snor dont want Dewaldt to make Pie Eater look kak like in WP.

Cant remember where but I read they were called up.

I saw the Bulls Lions game today and Hougaard has great potential at 9. Looked rusty but jeez his speed helps. He is at the base of every ruck and clears like lightning.

Don't understand how they could call Vermaak ahead of Dewald...I love the way Dewald plays.

Lions have unearthed an interesting 10 - Jantjes. What you think of him Paarl? Looks very, very handy. Now watch Mitchell steal him for the Force. I would if I was Mitch.

Understand the Lions is busy stealing Mitchell, look like he is going to come here long term, they prefer him to Dick Muir. Ja Jantjes wasnt that bad when he played from the bench against WP and had a good game against the Brutes, sure have more attacking skills compare to Herkie. The Lions 15, Jaco Taute plays 10, his prefferred position and also playing better by the day. Speaking of Mitch , look like petoors may start next weekend for the Sharks, also Mapoe will know his faith next week. Another youngster to watch is Conrad Hoffman. He plays well with his limited changes and is versatile. Saw the Brutes U19s is busy waisting the Leopards, 26-0 at halftime. Live ticker now at ww.sarugby.net.

Just another note, Paarl Gym TH fattie is still looking for a rugby future next year. Any contract that side for a smallies , strong as a ox, firey type of TH? Baldrick, you know of that incident. The laaitie kept 4 GalPille busy at the rucks on the weekend and his changes look very slim to make WP U19 sqaud for next year.

Rod McCall (65)
Sorry Baldrick its the Kitshoff laaitie who trapped on Kebbles laaities head and his day nearly moered Min Manuel two years back in a U16 Bishops vs Gim match.

I watched Jantjes during the Junior World Cup in Argentina. Handy player. I want to see how Lambie goes at flyhalf this weekend. He seems to be the new utility player at the Sharks, lining up at 15, 12 and now 10 so far in the CC. Is fullback his preferred position? He played there at the Junior World Cup and looked good as well. Problem with Lambie is that while very gifted, he is a shrimp. Short, and lightweight. Not what we need in the 10/12 channel.

Watching Province versus Griqualand West right now. Bit of a hiding on. 34 - 3 to Province with 20 minutes left, with tries by Jantjes, de Jongh, and a nice one from Deon Fourie. I thought this one would be a bit closer, as Griquas have been able to play with the big boys for the last 2 years or so. Jantjes is looking less and less tentative every game, and is taking the ball into contact at full speed now. The Terminator titanium leg looks to be holding up.

An another try for the bonus point, this one by Gio Aplon.

Edit: Pieter Louw and Lionel Cronje get two more tries. Final score is 50 - 3.

Pakslae!

Jantjes 2 games away from his best and the next two the best he can ask for. Most pleasing for WP is the quality youngsters putting hands up.

Blue both petoors and Vermaak were woefull on the weekend. Vermaak cost the Lions at a critical stage with a pass that got intercepted and Petoors did not figure at all against WP defense. He and Viljoen went out of options against a deadly defensive systems and played way to much on their own. Petoors were replaced by Marnus Hugo in the second half. Duvenhage had his usual cracker and gave Willem all the time to dictate.
