Natal have signed fly-half Jacques-Louis Potgieter for 2011. Will play Super 15 and Currie Cup next year. Pretty interesting that Natal announced it this week, with Pottie coming to Durbs with his current team the Bulls this weekend. Gamesmanship?

Wow

The Shoks will have a real flyhalf. He's a very good player.

Really? You would think the Cheetahs would be able to pull a decent S15 squad out of that. I guess the Griquas' performance has been a recent thing.
Griqua players have started to feature more and more in the Cheetahs in the last year. Combination of Free State losing so many players every year to the bigger SA provinces and overseas, and the improvement of the boys from Kimberley. Griquas won the Vodacom Cup in 07 and 09, and then had a really good Currie Cup in 2009. They just missed out on the semi finals when the "big" provinces got their Boks back for the last rounds. Griquas have been a bit of a success story as a small province. The rest of the small ones are there pretty much to make up the numbers, and line the pockets of their corrupt administrators.

The Supersport article said he wants to be Morne Steyn's Bok backup in the RWC, and wants playing time in the S15 to make his case. He was going to get splinters in his bum at Loftus. If playing time is a priority, I don't understand why he left Bloem.

Just to add on, Griquas coach , Dawie Theron and Rassie Erasmus have a deal going since last year. All the extra players at WP (currently a few from last years WP U21s and Maties Varsity Cup) like the MOTM flanker Wesley Wilkins and Leon Karemarker , got send to Griquas to give them CC exposure. In turn Rassie have first right on them if they perform and he need them at the Stormers in the next years Super Rugby season. Griquas have now real depth for the first time and a good coach like Dawie Theron, so their future looks bright. The Cheetah S14 lot should have used their players more often and good ones like Pretorius and Viljoen struggled to crack the nod there.

He had the same thing when Naka started picking Naas Olivier as first choise. Myself think its a good move for Potgieter. The Guppies need a good flyhalf and he need to be playing. Good player.

The Vodacom Free State Cheetahs will be aiming to record their first home victory of the season on Friday when they host the GWK Griquas at Vodacom Park at 19h00.

Ok just watched Sharks versus Griekwas (on fast forward a lot of the time).

Early season scraps. Roodt was okay, seems to have slimmed down even more. He was pretty good in the tight and took soem lineout ball. He offers little around the park though.

Jeez Bjorn Basson has gas. He can't be far away from a more regular Bok role.

Sarel Pretorius at no 9 for Griekwas was very good (played for the Cheetahs in the Super 14).

Meyer at 10 for Sharks looks a little light weight.

Defense in general was piss poor.

Going to be interesting to see the Brutes B team vs the Guppies tomorrow. The Guppies shift of Lampie to 12 looks a bit desperate to me. According to their supporters he is the next best thing but he looked pretty ordinary in that match. Think the Brutes midfield pair of Dippenaar and Watermeyer will exploide him even futher. Two 15s in midfield is going to be a disaster. Now they dropped Cocky to the bench aswell, another one they want to give the Bok jersey. Cant wait to see this Brute youngsters tear them a new one , vok weet the Guppies are a arrogant bunch.

Dunno if they are arrogant. But they do some weired stuff.

What position did Lambie play at school?

Unless they have another 12 in their squad I can see why they are looking for something in midfield. Swanepoel is utterly useless.

Was on Newlands and really enjoy the day. WP rugby structure look strong and healthy. The three teams beating the Lions 115-15 on the day and this without 9 players, tells the story. One positive for the Lions was that they havent gave WP that 4th try and their defense look a bit more steady. Still a mountain of work ahead for John Mitchell. The Sharks vs Bulls game , that was entertaining and the biggest advertisement for CC rugby. Some great running rugby from both sides and getting stucked into each other. WP the only undefeated team left in the Premier Division.

Only arrived in time foor the U21s and watched JP Smith (Ruaans Twin Boet) scoring his try. JP play TH and Ruaan LH. Was surprise to see Ruaan playing for the bench because he always was the better one of the two Twins but he now isnt big, he is huge, make no mistake.
