SupeRugby Final 2011: Queensland Reds V Canterbury Crusaders

This crowd will boo anything..annoying. turning sound down.

SupeRugby Final 2011: Queensland Reds V Canterbury Crusaders

Sensational individual try from Digby. Reds need to hold onto the damn ball and Genia needs to limit his kicking to bad ball.

SupeRugby Final 2011: Queensland Reds V Canterbury Crusaders

Think Lawrence has been surprisingly consistent for both sides, although breakdown is too messy. Reds have had so little attacking ball, but their defense has been magnificent. Crusaders, for all their possession, have been somewhat neutralized and have been forced into mistakes, but their...

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

With all their possession, Blues cant do anything with it.

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

Honestly think this game is now. Quade and Genia cutting them up.

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

Brilliant from Reds. Even when the Blues get the odd line break, they dont have the speed and support to take advantage, unlike the Reds. Munro being exposed. Lam's poor decision to keep his major line breaker on the bench playing into Reds.

Superb pressure on the ball from Beau.

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

Blues cant take the Reds out wide; they just don't have the speed. As long as Reds secure a good supply of primary possession (and take their pts), I just cant see them losing this.

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

Reds superb cover defense and generation of quick ball is the difference here. They look the business. Reds have given away cheap ball from re-starts, but Blues will need to go up the middle into the teeth of a committed Reds pack if they are to stay with Reds. Looking very good.

    Waratahs 2012

Now that is a pleasant surprise. How they hell did they manage to sign him away from SA? If it makes the Tahs stronger (and it will), it is a positive development. He is a very different player from Burgess, and he signals a more expansive approach.

    Ma'a Nonu

Rumour is that Ricoh of Japan has signed him. No contract length specified. Brett has officially signed for Toyota of Japan for two years.

    Scrum Talk

Here's what I'd prefer. Packs bind (ref confirms bind), Opposing front rows touch, then engage (ref confirms binding is legal, square and over the mark).. scrum feed approved by ref (ref confirms feed is straight, and all players remain legally bound until he gives signals that scrum is over)...

    Semifinal 1: Reds V Blues

There needs to be a big advantage in winning the overal regula season comp. I agree that odds are stacked in favor of teams that finish 1 and 2, and Reds deserve that advantage. I'm actually in favor of the comp as it stands.

    Scrum Talk

Not sure what Baxter is advocating..But opposition dominance will still be reflected in the weaker scrum getting lousy quality ball going backwards AND a dominant scrum is more likely to truly crucify the weak and ultimately score points on its own put in. The initial hit determines dominance...

    Scrum Talk

So true. It's a blight on the game. And refs are powerless to resolve it. Some time ago, I was fortunate enough to sit among a few wise old front row heads (Keith Woods, Jason Leonard and subsequently Kingsley Jones. Given the fog of beer and wine, I can't remember who said what exactly...

    Scrum Talk

LG Excellent post. I found myself in agreement with nearly all your points. Removing the hit will not be a panacea, but coupled with a zero tolerance approach on binding and enforcing the straight feed, it will go a long way to cleaning up the scrum mess. I also think it will favor more...

2011 S15 Semi Stormers vs Saders @ Newlands

Fair enough, and maybe it's more accurate to say that the Saders havent played at home all season. I wouldn't underestimate the toll it takes on players though. Thought this article was interesting is depicting the player/coaches psyche and frame of mind in Christchurch especially given the...

    Wallabies pecking order

I think that too much can be made of choice of captain. It's really an experienced core leadership group that is more important and influential and not just one specific individual wearing the armband. For me, the announcement of Smit as Bok captain at the real cost of not playing Bismarck is...

2011 S15 Semi Stormers vs Saders @ Newlands

Saders have effectively played every game on the road this season and they have figured out a way to cope. I don't see this Saturday as being a trip too far for them (but the Reds should surely benefit the following week). Saders have beaten Stormers already this year iat Newlands in a game in...

    Lack of Crowds in NZ

So it's even more alarming that rugby supporters would not be prepared to attend a game that can only be seen live.
