I was about to chime in with something similar. One aspect that might be getting ignored amongst us armchair player managers is that negotiations may be subject to negotiations with other players (and their clubs) who may have ended up at a franchise that they may not have otherwise chosen...

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

Langi was the 2024 forwards version of 2023 Tom Wright. Rocks and diamonds, but with more rocks. He has the potential to be a superstar, has a massive motor and no fear, but a currently high error rate.

Melbourne Rebels Players - where are they going?

I’m also a bit sympathetic to his position. However, he moved to Melbourne. Yes, it was probably acceptance of a job offer to get back in Australia, and then he hoped to return to Brisbane. But, he would have at least considered the possibility he would be in Melbourne for more than a year...

So the only unforced changes are White for McDermott and Nasser for Pollard

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

It will be a good opportunity for Cale to show what he's got as a starter as well. I still think he's a bit light for test rugby but he does play above his weight. I think he's fine against Wales & Georgia but NZ, Saffers, and the grand slam tour might be different stories. At least he has...

I think you are reading what suits you into the player departures. They wouldn't have let players go without first discussing the intent of the potential replacements from the Rebels if that was why they were letting them go. Hanigan has gone to top up his super, I suspect Swinton & Harrison...

No one is being forced to do anything. They are being offered the opportunity to continue their professional rugby playing careers at one of the 4 other franchises. The Waratahs are getting the most attention as they need players the most.

Melbourne Rebellion as 11 stars snub NSW Waratahs amid Rugby Australia contract talks The Waratahs’ hopes of landing a host of Melbourne Rebels stars are in tatters as key group opt for rival clubs, with some even choosing club rugby over pulling on the NSW colours. This masthead can reveal...

    Australian Rugby / RA

I think that's right, it's basically just a rewrite of the article from a couple of weeks ago except they are naming the players and the Waratahs now have a coach. It also smells a little bit of a Newscorp disruptor now that the next broadcast deal is getting thrown around. As we discussed at...

2024 Under 20 Rugby Champs all match discussion thread

I would say that if Horne is suggesting the process was wrong he is probably correct. Whether World Rugby take any notice of that is a different matter.

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

Personally I'd have both of Hooper and Gleeson on the bench and Blyth in the stands. I'd say Hooper is the favourite for the gig but on the other hand he is probably more suited to a starting role as he has a big engine but is not really an impact player, so it depends what Joe is looking for I...

Could be 20. Gleeson as well if he’s after a bit of impact in the last 20, provided he can catch the bloody ball

    Waratahs 2025

You would have to assume so wouldn't you? Edit I just did a bit of background, Nick was schooled in Canberra but Robert is tied to Melbourne Grammar. However, Robert was on several boards based in Canberra including the National Art Gallery, and from what I can gather called Adelaide home (he...

    Queensland Reds 2025

If it has to be their first 'club' they link to then that could explain it, but these two clearly had their rugby origins in Qld (TSS & BBC respectively). For the record, I don't mind at all, I had just noticed the inconsistencies so was just wondering what the criteria was. We may well have...

    Waratahs 2025

I don't know where the Champion comes from but de Crespigny was a 80s/90s mining dude wasn't he? Normandy I think.

    Queensland Reds 2025

but inconsistent with Noah and Len naming Vikings as theirs. I don't think there is anything in it, players clearly nominated whatever club for whatever reason, and the reasons no doubt varied.

Wallabies v Wales Game 2 Sat 13 July Melbourne

My guess is Gordon will start but White will be on the bench. Gordon brings the kicking & running game he wants from a 9 but needs to work out who plan B is.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The headline seems to have changed too. This is what I get. Super Rugby’s struggle brings national club competition back on agenda

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I actually did pay for it. Not for that article specifically but they were offering $1 for the first month so I was curious to see what the platform was about. That headline is a bit misleading, there actually isn't anyone from Shute Shield saying that. This is the context of the Shute...
