Ref's; what makes 'em good, what should they be trying to do.

Referee to the laws of the game (straight scrum feeds, proper procedure at the breakdown, ping for offsides) and use the yellow cards to ensure no repeat offenders.

Wallabies V Boks Loftus Versfeld Pretoria 28/08/2010

We won the first BaaBaa v England game though so it was 2 wins a draw and 2 losses.

    Carter Gooooooonnnnnnnnneeeeee

1995 or 2005? I can't remember the Wallabies playing Ireland in '95 (World Cup? end of Year Tour?) but remember they lost to England with Rob Andrew's drop goal.

NRL: Considering a Raid on 'Vulnerable Rugby'?

Why would FOX want to spend $1bn on league when only people in NSW and Queensland watch it? Think Murdoch has more sense than that. Good idea calling for league to raid rugby ranks when it is fairly common knowledge that most of the clubs in the NRl are struggling for survival.

    Waratahs 2011

I'd be quite happy seeing Carter remain at 12. IMHO Carter was one of the unsung heroes at 12 in the 'tahs late season resurgence.

    Quade Cooper going to NRL?

I am hoping that he stays of course but if he does decide to go I hope the ARU slam the door shut behind him ever coming back. In 3 years time I don't want to be reading about him umming and aahing over returning to rugby and the reds. No player can ever again be bigger than the game.

    Shute Shield 2010

Been impressed with Jerry Y in this game. He is getting through a mountain of work, some nice runs in the open and has got the better of both the Eastwood tighthead props who have scrummed against him (including Dunning who has played tests for Australia at tighthead). Is he still with the...

Should the Australian Rugby Championship come back.

As we seem to be moving more into an argument on the pros and cons of Shute Shield expansion I have mentioned on several occasions over the years that the Shute Shield should be moved to a Sunday as presently it is impossible for a core of die hard rugby fans to go along and watch their local...

    South Africa tour (and squad)

    1. It was his first test and from looking at it he was a little too eager to make his presence known early but once he settled down was good. 2. He missed most of his tackles in the second half from memory where he was noticedly tiring. I said to my mate who I was watching the game with he...

    Quade Cooper going to NRL?

Mods, maybe this thread and the Weidler one should be merged as they both cover the same topic. Alternatively maybe everyone could start posting in the Weidler thread.....

    Wallaby tactics

The Wallabies limp dick attack was on display for all to see again tonight. We lack penetration and were easier to read than a baby's first book. In the past Oz has been reknowned for innovative attacking play but it has deserted us over the past 5 years. Our skill levels are lacking (which is...

My Wallaby Ratings - V All Blacks Chrischurch 07/08/2010

Robbo 6 - he is not having the same impact at the breakdown as he had last year - may be his injury S Finger - 8 was everywhere tonight Maafu - agree with Gnostic Mumm 5 - tried harder tonight but still not test match standard Sharpe 8 fantastic game tonight. Made up for his lineout mistake...

Wallabies v All Blacks Christchurch Sat 7 August, 2010

Thought Ant Finger improved as the game wore on and his work at the breakdown is something that Oz had been missing by playing smaller "ball players". Some handy passes by him as well. Thought he was out on his feet a bit in the last 20 and should have been replaced (which was about the time he...

Wallabies 3-2-1 vs All Blacks, Chch.

3 Pocock - immense as usual hoping his injury isn't too serious 2 Nathan Sharpe - gone are the days of the seagull (still needs to work harder in the scrums) 1 Beale - think the Wallabies have found their fullback with AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) playing well in the centres.

    Wallabies team for next week?

Both. Horan could pass but he was much better punching holes in the defence. Maybe the coaching staff will look at bringing Inman into the squad to replace Horne in the event of AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) (hopefully won't happen) getting injured. Centre is a specialist defensive position and at test level you don't...

    Wallabies team for next week?

BH, Fainga'a does pass though. Remember the Wallaby success in the late 90's/early '00s was with two crashballing centres not noted for their passing. Having them there will hopefully stop the AB centres drifting wide (especially if they are straightening and Gits isn't crabbing too much) and...

Disco's player ratings Wallabies v All Blacks Melbourne 31.07.2010

He speaks his mind which is frowned down upon in Oz rugby as everyone is supposed to toe the party line and he criticises poor play. He was attack coach for the sharks in the S14 in -06/7 and they played some good attacking rugby in those years, losing the final in '07 in the final minute when...

    Richie McCaw Cheat or genius

Isn't it a natural response for your arms to flail about like that when you have been knocked backwards unexpectedly? I personally didn't see it as a 'dive' but a natural reaction. Can't blame McCaw for that yellow card, blame Kaplan. Also, I'm in the McCaw is a cheat and genius camp. I think...

Disco's player ratings Wallabies v All Blacks Melbourne 31.07.2010

Have to say I disagree Chainsaw. We've tried the two opensides before with Smith / Waugh (you could argue we've been using it this year with Pocock / Brown) and it doesn't work. It doesn't win you more ball or make you more effective at the breakdown. We need another mongrel at flanker / 8 such...
