    Transitioning from Playing to Refereeing

Fitness, law knowledge and positioning are key. Back your decision, set your standards and stick to them. Don't be afraid to use your cards. Players will listen to you talk, react to the whistle and change their behaviour when they are carded. Get involved with your fellow referees, you may...

    Transitioning from Playing to Refereeing

Hugh Jarse I think this thread is worthy of "rugby discussion" status too. I think its great to hear other referee stories on how they got into refereeing. It's a daunting step as an ex-player to go 'to the dark side' but one that I've found a majority of referees find is quite rewarding when...

Burgess may be on the move to Oz?

I hope he comes back to the fold, Australian rugby needs more blokes like Burgo.

    Transitioning from Playing to Refereeing

If you're match fit, you'll be fine to referee. Refereeing fitness is more about the aerobic capacity although this depends on the game and grade. As a referee, I believe being fit (reasonably) helps with decision making and players like that you are able to keep up with the game and make...

    Transitioning from Playing to Refereeing

RoffsChoice Welcome to the fold grasshopper! I've been refereeing for about 5 years as an ex-player, ex-coach and development officer. I find that refereeing keeps me involved in the game that I love, challenges me physically and mentally and provides flexibility to ref when I want to and spend...

    John I Dent Cup 2013

Royals are sounding handy, although I wonder what effect Craig Leseberg's step back will have on the Royals? Will Russell Ingram be able to continue on with Lesey's work?

    Southern Inland Rugby 2013

Don Cameron, former Albury Steamers Coach has been writing some articles on the Steamers particularly, and Rugby in general, check it out at: http://blindsidecounter.weebly.com/index.html The Steamers will be stoked to have Nathan Bright back in the fold for 2013.

    2013 S15 Referees

I think the majority of those variations will be adopted for Super Rugby. I think you'll find that these changes will also be adopted at the Community Rugby level in Australia as well. The ARU are in the process of ratifying which laws will be adopted.

Make sure you keep an eye on the SIRU zone website during the season. There's a good early season news article posted here.

    Southern Inland Rugby 2013

Ex-Griffith Junior Robbie Abel is pushing his case at the Brumbies for 2013. Good article from Ex-Wagga Junior Chris Dutton at the Canberra Times.

    Southern Inland Rugby 2013

Cootamundra have announced their 2013 Coach as ex NSW Country Rep Andrew Glover following the resignation of long-term coach Kristian Bodycott. Wagga Girl Rebeka Lally has been making some headlines also, hopefully this publicity bodes well for the 2013 Women's 7 a side competition within...

2013 Season Thoughts. Hi folks, apologies for being a bit slack over the off-season, although I'm sure that those of you who are local or in the know have been keeping an eye on Pam Whaley's great work over at the DA, see links to her stories on Griffith, Wagga City, and SIRU. From my point...

    Pic needs a caption

I know one of the blokes in that photo, it was taken at Fortress Murrayfield in Albury. It's a reasonably well known photo in this neck of the woods. The Albury Steamers player taking on the two Tumut Bulls players. From memory, Tumut won the comp that year.

    2013 S15 Referees

PaarlBok Thanks for posting this. It's good to see some new blood there in the refereeing ranks for 2013. I hope Pollock makes a full recovery, he was the form ref of the 2012 S15 season for me.

    VRU 2013

KevinO How would the Vic Country comp look without Deni or BARC? I notice you haven't included Deni in that split comp model, are they definitely out of the VRU 2013 in all shapes and forms?

    Rugby Coaching

Hugh Jarse There are products available to coaches that allow them to enter their own stats into. The ARU were pushing this to Level II coaches early this year. Not sure what the take up rate was on that, but i think its a good tool for club coaches
