Any G&GR Reds supporters planning a trip to Canberra for the match on 16 February? Tahs have a bye that week, it'd be nice to catch up with the Brisbane brigade over a few beers at the Wig & Pen in Civic after the game.

I heard last year its future wasn't assured (the owner had it up for sale quite a while ago) and there were ongoing concerns with the landlord wanting to do other things with the premises, but I had a beer or two (OK, four) there in December. BJ, please don't tell me it's closed since then.

Until BJ tells me it's closed I shall remain hopeful. Some Brumbies supporters frequent Debacle in Braddon, the owner's a Brumbies tragic. They've got a few German and English beers on tap, a step up from the factory muck put out by Australia's two big breweries. Here's a link: http://www.outincanberra.com.au/debacle

I forgot about Debacle......... that used to be my go to place when I lived in Turner...

Canberra nightlife has hit a new low if true..

I wound up in Manuka on the weekend just after midnight and NOTHING was open. Not even the Kingo!

Now that the trials are done with I would be interested in the views of a few that saw them as to who they think nailed down spots for both teams going into the first game.

Likely Brumbies team:

1. Alexander
2. Moore
3. Palmer
4. Fardy
5. Carter
6. Kimlin
7. Pocock
8. Mowen (c)
9. White
10. To'omua
11. Tomane
12. Lealiifano
13. Smith
14. Speight
15. Mogg

That team is pretty much locked in with the possible surprise selection of Rathbone on the wing, which I doubt.........

Thanks Slim. I was wondering on the thoughts on Rathbone. From reports he seems to have been very impressive in the trials. But I guess Speight & Tomane are also going pretty well. I was hoping there might be a chance Tomane would get a go at 13.

In saying that, even though it has been suggested a few times on here I don't think I have ever read anything out of the Brumbies that suggests he might be being considered there + Andrew Smith has also made a pretty good fist of nailing 13.

It's good to have options.

I did not see the trials but don't expect any surprises. From what i have read Hanson has the edge for now and there were probably not many other spots where the trials would decide the position. The 5th bench spot i expect will go to one of the new backrowers but could not guess as to who.

You think Horwill will start with zero game time in over 9 months?
He may be capable of doing it but could be wise to bring Kev back via the bench the first week.

Samo has reportedly been in fine aggressive form and may also start at 8.

Samo is injured and won't be back until Rd 2
