    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

The mail I hear to date is that the Leeton Blacks Phantoms will be the big improvers, Ag College seem to have recruited well and have some good numbers at the club, Waratahs seem to be status quo from 2014, Albury lose a few old heads, Young are building and Wagga City's star recruit is injured...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

Not sure TBH HJ. I know of one player from CSU - Wagga who played for Australian Universities and then vanished into thin air but this was a while ago now. It is possible that CSU were made aware of the tournament but chose not to attend, there might be some value in a combined CSU (CSU-W...

Waratahs v Brumbies, round 6, Sunday 22 March

Tough game to tip TBH. Brumbies biggest test will be playing out the full 80mins. They're playing a fast paced brand of rugby at the moment but need to be able to string that together for the whole match. Tahs need to be consistent and use their big boppers wisely. My gut says Brumbies by 6.

Won by Leeton, haven't heard anything other than that. Not much to report for pre-season to be honest. Tumut are hosting Wagga City and Royals this weekend at Jarrah Park. Does anyone else have any mail on pre-season matches? I hear that the SIRU Knockout may be on the backburner?

Maybe next year. I would suggest that Monaro would be pretty close to finalising their draw and numbers, SIRU 3rd Grade is arguably their best option.

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

The way I see it, they don't have many options really. The competition kicks off in less than a month, these sort of requests need to come through the AGM and Council Meeting to allow clubs to consider what impact it will have on their club. What would the Railway Hotel in Temora say about the...

    Refereeing decisions

Happy to speak my mind to the powers that be old timer! :) Have you ever been to a referee or foundation course where they don't preach Safety, Fun and Fairness in that order. Or as one presenter likes to sprout: Safety, Safety, Safety. The issue is that there are too many laws which create...

    Refereeing decisions

In my personal view, the law book is the biggest problem. Referee to the spirit of the game, get the ball into play and provide opportunities for the attacking team to use the ball and for the defensive team to win the ball. Safety, Fun and Fairness are the keys. I reckon we get too involved...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

I've heard that they are interested in playing in SIRU, possibly in a 2nd Grade format which is being driven by the local publican (as most good publicans do :) ). Coota and Young have both nominated 1st and 2nd Grade teams for 2015 which would leave Temora as the only option for Harden to be...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

The draw would likely have been ratified at the SIRU Board Meeting last night for 1st & 2nd Grade only. 3rd Grade, 17's and Women's competition structures etc will probably have until the end of this month to nominate etc. It's interesting to hear that Coota are talking to Junee (if that's...

Jane Garraway from Wagga (now Canberra) is Vice Captain for the team also. A strong family history in the area with an athletics background and family ties to many roles across the zone. Nothing wrong with the Brumbies pathway. Well done girls, all the best for the tournament.

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

Sammy Maxwell from Wagga City women's team will captain the Brumbies U18 Women's 7's team at Narrabeen this weekend at the National Championships. This is a great effort by Sammy and awesome to see our local women's comp is producing talent like this. Sammy laid a tackle on against Temora...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

My mail says that Will Mitchell will be involved with coaching Waratahs, possibly an assistant and/or second grade coach. 1st Grade will be a Scotsman via Canada, don't have his name handy at the minute - I think it was Stuart McHaggis from memory. Back to the future will see a club stalwart...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2015

I would find it strange if CSU were actually offering that to players, they've always had a strong involvement in the Wagga Juniors that has brought numbers through their club. This involvement has arguably dipped in recent years with Wagga City and Waratahs taking up some of that space. Paying...

Seru has done well, taking the Griffith Blacks and the Black and Whites to Premierships in 2014. I wonder if he'll be able to take the Leeton Phantoms and Leeton Greens to Premierships in 2015? It's a big ask but I'm sure Seru is up to the challenge! :)

SIRU Rep Program Update: Ok, so we know that SIRU are going to Country Week in Bowral on the 2nd and 3rd of March which is an improvement to the Rep Program. The 2015 Brumbies Provincial Championships will be held in Wagga over the June Long Weekend which is a bonus for the zone and SIRU do...
