    Red Son, OK!

    CAS expansion

Hi Red Son, There were 7 games at the end to ensure a long enough season. This meant that when the CAS season finished, it closely coincided with the GPS end of season, and then the combined teams, including CHS, would play each other. Throughout the age groups we always played Pats, never...

Rich_E, My real point re crickets pink ball intro, was how change can be good. Clearly it needs to be well thought through. I agree with formerflankers comment, and I guess everyone else does to, it would be nice to hear the rationale/strategy from the headmasters!

I hope 1 day someone will see a future beyond a tiny CAS and GPS comp, but looking at this page with silly bloody pictorials maybe not. A change of pace here, does anyone think the day/night pink ball, in the most traditional national sport, is a good idea?

Correction to last comment, bloody PC, "Mind you we think we were better then we were!"

    CAS expansion

Red son, we will agree to disagree, which is fine. Firstly as Barker didn't even play St.Pius in in 1979, that supposed comp argument is over. The CAS has never included Pats or Pius in ANY of our sports, swimming, cricket etc, so trying to bend it doesn't work. I can absolutely assure you in...

    CAS expansion

Hi Red Son, I will take you word for it. I was in the Waverley 79 side, I remember every game we played both here and in Brisbane (Gregory Terrace and Nudgee), but I do not remember even playing St Pius or even their colours! Must have been concussed, as Dick says it was just a few years ago!

    CAS expansion

Red Son, The only problem with this analysis is that some teams in 1979 didn't even play St.Pius, I know Waverley certainly didn't, and the same applies for the other years quoted,so using the first group of schools is hypothetical.

That biggest centre is a mate of Carmo's and mine! Nickname Mungo (appropriate) He did start it all but you didn't back down, so talk it up!

P.S. We went up to Newington to watch your game. Besides all the blues (no names) you guys were robbed! It should not have been a draw!

Dick, I think you are probably right, ask V. Carmo at Bilgola a great mate of mine and yours! Initials DH, year 1979 lives in Clovelly! He often mentions you! Funny to bump into you this way, say hi to Stephen when you next see him, we went to primary school Holy Cross together, and he...

    CAS expansion

Hi Dick, The Aloys 1979 was the best team we (Waverley) played in that year for sure, and we also played many of the GPS schools. I had a good mate in the Aloys team, Stephen Cahill and also played cricket against many of you guys, including you, a great bunch of guys! I think we will have...

This is a distinct advantage that Waverley has over most schools, that is why I don't think recruitment is so important. A recently departed sports director at a GPS school, who did not come from the GPS system, said to me recently that if his old school consistently had the natural talent...

Yep, Agree on all counts, the strategy needs to be made public, ie by the school heads, and by the ARU (don't hold you breath on that one).

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Sideline, I am not going to look at this season's draws against all schools and add them all up, sorry. That doesn't prove anything when considering the future. ALL of the things you have mentioned are possible! Rather than us all fire back at each other with our own points of view, I...

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Sideline, I understand your point about numbers of teams per age group vs the GPS schools. Knox have strong depth as you know, Waverley not as strong but reasonable depth. BUT this is about building the future not things just as they stand today...

Rachet_84, You mentioned the 1st and 2nd XV's in the GPS vs CAS rounds, is there any news about the younger age groups, and whether its is all grades?

    NSW AAGPS 2017

If you join a new and stronger comp I would think that the motivation to strengthen the numbers in age groups, to be more competitive, is greater than staying in a comp that will probably get weaker, re the declining no. of teams in half the CAS schools. If Waverley and Knox have agreed to be...

    NSW AAGPS 2017

rollin_maul, My view re an overall stronger comp is exactly as you have put it above, including Oakhill and St. Augustines would make it a super comp imo. I do hope this first step develops into such a comp in the not too distant future. As it currently stands it is not there yet. To appease...

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Agree sideline, I am certainly hoping that the headmasters who have influenced a change have really thought through it. I would like to think that there is sufficient intelligence there for this to happen, and I think that is a fair expectation. New, doesn't always mean better, true, I just...
