yep FTA makes a remarkable difference. i actually think putting Super Rugby on FTA is the only thing that could save it (in conjunction with scrapping conferences for a full round robin). but even that solution wouldnt address talent equalisation needs and increased predictability of outcomes.

Think this is a good move. Still allows the addition of more teams as well - if required. for instance - IF(!) NRC had to be re-purposed as the main comp between Mar-June you could easily set up a Western Sydney team (if the demand was there) - which would fit it easily with a Syd City and NSW...

yeah i've always thought from reading different articles over the years that Super Rugby could be about 30% - so cut that TV revenue by $20m and ask what the new format might make to replace it (on a net basis after saving on travel and overheads like SANZAAR office).

Omar, Test revenue comes from being able to sell TV rights internationally - as well as twice domestically courtesy of anti-siphoning laws. as you would expect Test rugby has good value in overseas TV markets.
