Very few of them are even in the squad. Seems like a waste of a day.

Daugunu made a pretty stupid spear tackle with about four minutes left.

Super Rugby Trial: Reds v Rebels 17 January 2020

Well. I'm sure the Reds got a lot out of that (except for the card) but I've got no idea what was in it for us. AFAIK, only 11 out of 27 players are even on the Rebels list. Just can't see what the point was. IIRC, last year Wessels did something similar and then put out a stronger team for...

Seems to be some kind of problem every year.

Yeah but, Western Force, for whatever reason, are the only Aus Super team not to wear their state colours. No idea why they picked blue when their colours are traditionally black and gold. The BBL is kind of anti-tradition in a lot of respects and it seems to be working well for them.

Victoria's colours are navy blue, white, and silver. Same as NSW's colour is insipid blue.

Are you advocating that players should be able to come and go as they please because some clubs have treated some players poorly? I really don't see how this has anything at all to do with "loyalty", an overrated concept in a professional environment anyway. It does have a lot to do with...

AFL clubs have specific rules around player trades and a defined three week window in which they can make those trades. They are unlikely to make a trade unless they are getting something in return they consider to be of equal or greater value.

Point is, it's a contract. I might be a grumpy old bugger but I think that if you give someone your word that should be enough; you should do as you promised. If you then put that word in writing and sign your name to it, it should be almost as binding as spitting on your hand and shaking on a...

Not sure when the request would have been made but the rumours about Maddocks wanting out have been going around for at least a few months. I agree with you that he should have stuck to his word and seen out his contract.

Media are reporting that the Rebels want either Cam Clarke or Ben Donaldson as the trade. Donaldson wouldn't be the worst trade (but I'd rather it was HJ-H or Robertson ) Has Maddocks been doing pre-season or is he still with the 7s? Haven't seen him in any of the Rebels photos.

I would be surprised if they win any games this year. They've announced an initial squad of 25, mostly journeymen types. Apparently they plan to fill the rest of the squad with some young up and comers. There are a few Aussies on the list: Jake Schatz, Ben Hyne, Michael Stolberg, Corey Thomas...

Yes, but it would be awesome to have someone of his quality around the club. Y'know, to teach the young blokes about mullets and so forth.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

TBF to Mehrtens though, he may not have used the word "dumping". Probably a bit of added colour by the reporter. Six Japan based squads would be pretty unlikely, what with their revamped league and all. I think a 17 team competition could work. Play each team once over 16 weeks then three weeks...

The three Bled's to have been played at the 'G so far have an average attendance of 81,529. I only went to the last one of those but the atmosphere was rather acceptable, I would say.
