The AFL seem to have a similar philosophy, the worse the outcome for the injured player the more harsh the punishment. Seems silly to me. If you punched a bloke in the face and knocked out a few teeth should you get a worse penalty than if he just got a black eye, or a bloodied nose vs a broken...
