    Super Rugby 2022

pretty sure Anna P. has said "lockdowns" (and mandatory masks for that matter) are still part of their arsenal for managing outbreaks. i think thats different to border closures.

    Reds 2022

That claim may be out of date. although it might rely on what kind of majority is required to vote through the changes. QRU + Reds have 3 votes and NSWRU + Tahs have 3 votes = 6 of the 16 available votes. each state union gets 1 vote each Super Rugby team gets 1 vote and unions with over 50,000 players...

From https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/johnson-s-time-at-the-top-is-over-as-ra-plots-massive-reforms-20211208-p59fte.html "They are plotting a wholesale centralisation of high performance, streamlining coaching and athletic development roles, ending the warehousing of players in the...

    Reds 2022

I know there is no centralisation at the moment. my point was that talk of moving to a more centralised model isn't going to be helped by some of those calls made by the test coaches/selectors. they hint at what could happened if the centralised functions are captured by one partisan group. At...

    Reds 2022

Centralisation... hmmm... after the selection and "resting" shenanigans that have gone on at test level since the arrival of MacKellar, I reckon the QRU are probably moving away from the idea rather than towards it.

    Wallabies 2021

Have deleted post- apologies for that - went off a bit quick. Full suspension is under consideration but not yet in place. NZ Herald carrying the story. Wallabies might have to play all three in NZ if they do it.

    Reds 2022

only one year contracts. I guess if they aren't part of the wallabies squad by the end of 2022 (with RWC in 2023) they might be thinking about cashing in overseas. you'd hope that's not the case but its becoming such a well worn career path for Aussie players.

    Wallabies 2021

Perception is an interesting thing - I just went back through Wilon's carry and metres numbers for France tests and TRC last year... and i'm ready to admit he doesnt seem to get as much freedom as he does in SRAu or SRTT. And of course its Test rugby so it's not going to be as open a game...

    Wallabies 2021

RE our selections at 6 and 8. The biggest difference between the 4 for me is Wilson's line breaking ability. The other 3 just dont have that. In the second test, that part of Wilson's game was shut down, and the two selected for the decider absolutely matched the kind of game the French wanted...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

"Riiiiight. Australians will turn away from watching the premier rugby league and Aussie rules comps in the world to watch 3rd and 4th rate rugby players have a go. All because a Sydney team has the chance to beat a Qld or Perth team? Most Australians won't care about a domestic comp when...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

This is the cruz of it: "As for why people wouldn't watch it, well having a comp that reminds them that were shit every other week, that'll make us not watch. Ohh playing New Zealand regularly that'll kill the game locally. Also as for those saying the games would be 'low quality' I think...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Wayne Smith (SMH) also calling out the fact that NZR doesnt want to share tv dollars as per SANZAAR arrangements of old. as they say... follow the money. and the trick here is that the NZR broadcast deal is a bundled deal, and NZR alone get to determine what percent is attributable to Super Rugby...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

As a QLDer who lived in Nth Bondi for 5 years (so of course it makes me an expert!), I reckon its too much of an ask to expect a new Super Rugby team (however funded) to pick up the slack for NSWRU. With it's latest moves SRU/Shute Shield has shown it wants to be a traditional club comp with a full...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

"Both boards need other, but not sure who needs who more!" I think the boards only need each so far as organising tests is concerned, and perhaps a weekend or two of provincial winners playing off. otherwise RA needs to walk away from NZR. the priorities of the two countries couldn't be...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Bullrush you are right. It is our standard relative to new zealand's that has got us here. at this stage RA needs to be realistic about the chance of reversing that. NZR are not at all interested in assisting australian rugby to improve (except for telling them to cut teams and the fan...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Gregor Paul in the NZ Herald with more advice for Australia. Complete with Roman adages! Pointing out that it doesn't matter "who wins or losses per se, but what is learnt along the way"! But oh we have learnt Gregor! we've learnt that mismatched competitions result in small crowds and...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Great to see NZ rugby people once again thinking they know what’s best for Oz rugby (referring to the Knowles article attached to the post above). Even going so far as to bring up the “cut two teams” request that NZ felt they could force on us. The sooner Aus rugby tell NZ rugby to go to hell...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

i had to buy shorts and socks. usually a training shirt is provided free (didn't seem to get one this year!). jerseys are on loan from the club for the season. and this is at one of the largest juniors clubs in QLD in believe some goes to club, then BJRU, then QRU, the RA. everyone gets...
