    Shute Shield 2013

Sorry Ryan09, my mistake. However, I reckon you've got to get a pass mark to make it through. 50 percent or better. You can't have losing year and deem it a success. That's what basketball is for!

    Shute Shield 2013

Sounds like commonsense has prevailed. It was 18 rounds in the late 90's and early noughties- which I actually preferred. Those last 4 rounds in a 22 round draw can be a real challenge, and actually derail lower grade teams who have to feed the top grades. And a top 6 means that teams need win...

    Shute Shield 2013

This is very impressive. Before professionalism, ingenuity was part of Rugby's DNA - because we couldn't offer cash (or weren't supposed to) we had to offer a bit more. And use our noggin in what we could offer. Well done Parramatta. If the biggest trick in gaining players is not losing them...

    Shute Shield 2013

Unfortunately, many of our so-called 'talent scouts' would rather shop at the department store than scouring around the boutiques. So if you want to get picked up, you need to be on the shelf in the department store. My 12 year old son said to me the other day that he 'was going to play for...

    Shute Shield 2013 Transfers

He's been ringing the rats in November ever since I was there. In fact, his mother used to ring!

Great kid. Deserves everything he gets. When fit, he is simply fabulous.

    Shute Shield 2013

Bakewell's past success has been linked heavily to a 'train hard, win easy' philosophy. From my understanding, he demands exceptional commitment from the playing group, as he has a great attention to detail both technically and physiologically- particularly when he was coaching with Brian Smith...

I'll let you read between the lines Knuckles!

    Shute Shield 2013

This isn't just a Randwick issue. It is very dificult to recruit lower grade coaches these days. I reckon it's because lower grade coaching is no longer necessarily a pathway to First grade. These days, retiring Super players expect to slot in at first grade level without developing their...

Any news on who is coaching Gordon next season?

    Shute Shield 2013

I think that's my point misses. The 2010 schoolboys were a pretty good side. Under the national academy that intake has slid down the ratings. So, yes, The elite coaching department of the ARU is letting the nation down. If the under 20s win next year, they deserve all the accolades, but this...

    Shute Shield 2013

I also wonder whether this stable of coaches go through the same performance review that the Shute Shield clubs do? I also wonder whether their salaries are adjusted accordingly.

    Shute Shield 2013

Ok, so just from just a coaching Point of view, we have Deans, Blades, Scrivener, McGahan with the Wallabies; Eddy, Nucifora, Hedger, Carozza, Mitchell, Whittacker, Sutherland, Carpenter and Clark in the High Performance Unit. I haven't even begun with the S & C guys. It would be interesting to...

    Shute Shield 2013

Does anyone know who this newly appointed Head Coach of the National academy is? There appears to be a cast of thousands at the ARU. Nucifora, Eddy, Carossa, etc. Theres' 3X the total club allocation in Elite development salaries there alone. Yet we have no money where 'the rubber meets...

    Shute Shield 2013

Over the past decade, the ARU and NSWRU have fought a war of attrition hoping a few Shute Shield clubs would just die off. Arguably, this system doesn't represent a carrot for the successful, but an attempt to hurry the demise of the under-resourced.

    Shute Shield 2013

We are on the same page knuckles. Here is a thought. As some may know, my better half ( or three quarters) was a fairly handy netballer. Like rugby, they too had a number of state comps, but only an annual national championship tournament. To create a national comp, they created the super...

    Shute Shield 2013

I know Knuckles, I'm living dangerously. I do worry, however, that the comp is perhaps losing its relevance. 12 teams may be too many. And all from Sydney. And of those teams, many in very different financial states. Go your hardest!

    Shute Shield 2013

Are we beginning to see the market rationalising the Shute Shield? If Penrith, Gordon and Easts were to flounder, we'd be left with a 9 team comp-3 from the West, 3 from the east/south and three from the north. a 16 round comp where everyone plays twice. 'Incoming!!!!'

    Shute Shield 2013

If West Harbour and Danny part ways, that will be 4 coaches in 4 seasons. The past three seasons they've had 6 wins a year. I may be biased, but I don't think the coach is entirely to blame. They need to give Daniel a go. I don't think you can effectively evaluate a coach on one season's effort.

If everyone played for their junior club

OTB, You may be right on Lester, however I do know that Tito played Wests Colts before going to Parra, then he came back. I do remember Rory Sidey saying they were junior centre partners.
