    CAS Rugby 2017

Yes, one should never take anything for granted but last week Waves won away w/o two Oz schoolboys and with very kittle ball against a much bigger team. This week they were w/o one Oz schoolboy & won away again putting on 50 + points w/o ever really getting into their stride. Next week all...

    CAS Rugby 2017

If you read the link, the Scott Coleman they refer to came down from the central coast to Newcastle to play colts. Definitely wrong person.

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Good question. Waverley has a strong rugby tradition which helps. As a Christian Brothers school it also has a certain ethos so its fees are about 1/3 - 1/2 the other schools against whom it competes. That breeds a certain fibro v silvertail mentality that both helps & hinders. I'm sure not...

    CAS Rugby 2017

I'd add some points to this. Another re-jigged backline didn't help Waverley's fluency to start and this, along with the greasy ball (there was a little bit of annoying rain about) made it hard for Waverley to get going. I would have given MoM to ben Donaldson who played out of position at 12...

Mate, been at all games bar one. You appear to be particularly knowledgable, opinionated and aggressive. Best you sign off for the night as will I. Enjoy watching the games, but not interacting with ppl such as yourself. Ciao.

As I said, I'm not aware of the full story but am now thanks to Dr William88. Respect !

    CAS Rugby 2017

Wow. Evidently pushed a few buttons there. Obviously you appear to be on the Waverley College medical team as you appear to be across all injuries so I'll defer to your superior clinical comments. Can bones bruise btw ? And if you're coughing up blood for a week I assume Cornish is out for an...

    CAS Rugby 2017

Didn't appear too injured to me. One was running the water, one helped an injured 2nd XV player to hobble up the hill to his parents' car - and a forward at IC wasn't a great move. Niggling injuries perhaps, but not enough to stop them playing by the looks. I overheard some SIC oldboys coming...

    CAS Rugby 2017

The New v Wav game shows that the game doesn't need to be good to be exciting. The last play of the day saw Waverley swing it right then left, get the overlap and pass with the line wide open 2m out only for the ball to go to ground and the whistle was then blown. With a new front row and 2/3...

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

If I'm not mistaken CAS/GPS play a combined water polo competition & separate awards are made at the season's end for the respective CAS/GPS winners, thereby maintaining association integrity but broadening the competition. That appears to be a good model.

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

Yes, but the rugby season is short given the real reason for being at school is study not sport. And in an increasingly competitive sports environment, all kids who want to play should be allowed to play each week, not just the 1sts/As. That's the problem in scheduling. It's not club rugby, it's...

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

Problem keeps on coming back to depth. If St Augustines has a good 1sts & gets tiered in the top division, how many 13s, 14s teams can they put up against other schools, how competitive are their 16Ds (if they have one). It's a logistical nightmare. The trick for school rugby is not to create an...

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

We also need to look at depth as well. In the CAS realistically only Knox and Waverley put up enough teams in each age group to have common fixtures with GPS. Not sure what the situation with ISA is. The 1sts is in some ways an artificial measure, particularly given some schools' propensity to...

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Mate, couldn't agree more. Waverley not getting much out of putting on 50 and 60 points each week against the best GPS can put up. Looking forward to getting back to the CAS where at least there's something to play for. Beating scholarship kids at 30K +/year schools is kinda fun the first time...

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

It's a difficult one for sure. The hardest issue though is the 'grading of teams' based on a 1st XV given the nature of non-scholarship schools. The excellent current Waverley 1st XV for example is largely the product of a Year 12 group that was strong in Year 5/7 with the other good Year 11...

    CAS Rugby 2017

All good & valid points - games whether won or lost should be an opportunity to learn and develop. I will disagree however that Waverley would have learnt the value of effective pick & drive - they use it when they can/need to as was seen during the Joeys game. But Waverley has always been a...

    CAS Rugby 2017

Waverley 50 Newington 28. Physically large Newington team that have a certain game plan that will be effective against teams where they achieve forward domination. Newington scored 4/4 tries from pick and drives close to the line, but are limited in attack and fragile in defence in the backs...

    2017 AAGPS/CAS Combined "Comp"

Lots of good points here. It is impossible to compare like with like. Just looking at the CAS Waverley has always had a good rugby culture and can pump out a decent # of rugby teams (around half of Year 7 sign up to play rugby which is great). Schools like Knox pump out a similar # of teams with...

    NSW AAGPS 2017

Bit hard to say given dominance of Waverley pack. Waverley halfback did score a sniping try from close in which would have hurt the SJC half. Overall the Waverley half won the day but always hard to tell when one is playing behind a group going forward. Still, the Bell/Donaldson combination...
