    Wallaby Watch 2014

Yep, a rugby journo mate told me that for all his BS, Growden has the best contacts by miles. Doesn't mean his opinions are wise, just that when he has scuttlebutt it's very often correct.

But not a first choice player, and might not even be named to the bench. So not an option for captain.

I'm outraged at the lack of outrage over the selection of Rob Horne. That used to break G&GR back in the day.

Always good to have the captain spend 70 minutes on the bench -- if he even makes the match day side.

Something something something social media strategy.

Deep, but unproven. We have loads of guys who MIGHT be great in stepping up, but we don't know. Anyway, I was wrong. Good set of locks, IMO.

Skelton to miss out, I'd guess. What with our lock stocks so deep and all.

Robbo is done, I reckon. I don't think Link sees him as the type of the prop he wants, and there are young guys he'd prefer to develop.

Tahs v Lions, round 14, SUNDAY 18 May

Obviously. But the reality of Super Rugby has always been that winning isn't enough. You need to target matches for bonus points and then execute correctly, both tactically and with the ball. Exactly. Scoreboard pressure creates opportunities, especially late in the game if you're 10+...

Tahs v Lions, round 14, SUNDAY 18 May

5 points is essential here, but we have a reasonable run home. I suspect we'll need something like this to end up in a strong position: Lions - home (5) Rebels - away (4) Chiefs - away (1) Brumbies - home (4) Highlanders - away home (4) Reds - away (5) That's 23 points from 6 games...

    Waratahs 2014

Palmer was prop 3-4 and quickly outgrew that role and moved on. Tough to keep top guys if they aren't regularly on the field.

    During the Lions Tour, IIRC.

    Waratahs 2014

As soon as he pulls on the sky blue, he'll be a line out general of the first order who doesn't back down from doing the dirty work and knows when to give away a strategic penalty to set the tone. We need blokes like that.

Fuck the clear membrane roof, just give me a decent beer in a 5 minute queue.

    Tahs v Canes @ SFS - Round 12

Maybe that's the problem. Did he throw flatter when the Yarra was his model?

    Tahs v Canes @ SFS - Round 12

It seems like lots of the Tahs have adjusted to Phipps putting the pass in a 5ft window, but still it's a massive problem. Makes it harder to seize opportunities and puts a lot of pressure on our kickers when we're in a defensive position.

Super Rugby - I am bored

Agree 100%. Wasn't singling out the Bulls, just that it was the most recent example.

Super Rugby - I am bored

Absolutely. The Bulls did the same crap on Sunday when they were down a man, meandering 40m for a line-out and wasting a solid minute in the process. There need to be harsh penalties for time wasting. Have strict time limits and card people for repeated infringements, especially in obvious...

    Tahs v Bulls, round 10 2014

It would be a big call to bench the captain, but he's easily the weak link in the pack at the moment.

    Tahs v Bulls, round 10 2014

The miracle balls are a real problem. Too many attempts at long cut-outs to flying wingers. No one on the team has a zippy enough long pass for that, and as a result the outside man has to slow or reach up and then gets smashed -- if the pass isn't forward or out of reach. Foley is the worst...
