    Lions Vs Reds. Bloem.

Don't think that's a team of "no names", but I don't recognise many of those names and I would think it is comprised half of "no names" - at least to most Super rugby fans. Not that there's anything wrong with being a team of mostly "no names" - most talents were "no names" at one stage or...

    Leon MacDonald ...

Really liked Rangi as a football player. I always thought that he was a much more well-rounded fullback than Mils. Agree with Lee, shame he didn't get a few more years playing to drag in some more retirement money as he deserves it.

    Shute Shield 2010

Re: 2010 NSW Club Rugby Balmain trying to get promoted? Nope. They are one of the better clubs in div 3 of Subbies, but there's a huge gulf between Balmain and any div 1 Subbies club. Mitchell and Balmain is little more than a promotional coup for the club. No doubt someone at Balmain was...

    Crusaders v Waratahs. Christchurch.

Come on; they're not that disgusting, surely. :puke:

    Brumbies v Cheetahs, Canberra

Yup, good humour value. Plus, I am trying to work out who the tart/tarts was/were of the bloggers, and then which one of them "retarted".

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Regarding the tactic of picking up the ball and running a bit with it to find a shot forward runner, you'd think the defensive coaches would have the post (assuming pillar -> post at the side of the ruck) set up to hit the halfback (or at least put huge pressure on him). That should greatly...

    Quade - the BBQ Entertainer

That actually made me chuckle out loud.

    Chris Hickey

Digressing from WJ's lunch a little, I know some some teams from some codes used to have players go to pubs/their club and meet supporters after the game. Do Tahs players usually wander by the Fox & Lion for a quiet one / meet the fans afterwards? Or do they have any particular haunts / go...

    Rules question, the tackled player

Lee - yes, maybe I am confused with league. Touching a ball carrier on the ground in league is definitely considered enough for a tackle.

    Rules question, the tackled player

They can't, but they can use common sense. Refs need to yell quickly and clearly if there is any doubt. Been seeing this a lot too, saw the Beast get correctly pinged for it either this weekend or last weekend - everything is running together for me today - but a lot of players are trying to...

    Chris Hickey

Curious. So how does one get to know the coach of the Tahs so well that he'd personally come up and tap you on the shoulder at a random lunch line? And then invite you to lunch with some NSW rugby staff members? And then have a two hour "power lunch" discussing rugby? And then pull out a laptop...

    Quade - the BBQ Entertainer

It's funny sometimes what players get pinged out of the game for, especially at Subbies level. A few years back there was an ex-army guy playing 12. Being formerly in the army, he liked to yell - loudly - when doing crazy stuff, like, say, hitting up a crashball at top pace. Apparently yelling...

    Quade - the BBQ Entertainer

I recall being told that jumping into the tackle with the ball is a penalty against the ball carrier. A Subbies coach said it, so take it however you want.

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Mumm has played several tests at blindside. You don't remember it because he was anonymous. Mumm needs to stay at lock.

    Reds vs Sharks

The Reds lost the game for themselves, the ref didn't lose it for them. They blew a winning lead by silly play and weak forward play in the second half. That period of Sharks dominance won it for the Sharks and lost it for the Reds.

    Reds vs Sharks

Argh just re-read my post from after the game and it shows why you shouldn't post on an iPhone at 3am. A few more comments... Both teams had problems stopping the other team from getting over the advantage line. Sharks tackling was awful but maul very good. Once they camped in the Reds half...

    Reds vs Sharks

Ngdungane looked like he came from the side for that turn over but it would've been a brave ref to blow it. Score was probably a fair reflection of the match. One of he Reds tries was off a forward pass but there appeared to be a blatant knock on in a ruck before the Sharks' first try. All...

    Lineout Tactics

Even subbies teams are taught to lift on the inside leg. Front guy holds inside leg just above the knee, back guy cups and supports the buttocks. Legal and efficient, assuming the jumper can jump correctly and stay stiff.

    Waratahs v Cheetahs. Sydney.

If someone has a spare ticket I might be able to swing it with the gf - she was partial to the thought of losing me for the night when I suggested it earlier ;)

    Melbourne Rebels 2011

Re: Rebels deadline ends, update here on what you hear. The comparisons between the Rebels and Force in their first years will be interesting. Remember MacQueen at the Brumbies - signed fringe players from both NSW and Queensland with a few (extremely) good local ACT lads. These players...
