    Wallabies 2019 Thread

Arguably, Genia is at his peak, and Phipps is definitely on the down hill slope imo. Come RWC time, No 9 might not be as well served as it is atm. Depends in part on how Powell and Gordon progress, if they do at all. There is no doubting that Sorovi has huge potential and even green as he is, he...

And I thought it was the most ineffective game I've ever seen him play FP. Eye of the beholder, of course. But no way I could agree that he was the our best forward. He is playing in the shadow of Pocock.

That's about it. The way I read it, to Cyclo, the Irish dominance at the breakdown (apart from more turnovers, I don't really think they were all that much better in the forwards than ours) caused the poor decision making and technical deficiencies in our kicking game. To me, the propensity to...

On his present form, I can see that being a possibility. Would help (sarcastically) if he moved to the Tahs next year though.

Cyclo, I don't wish to exaggerate but I really think I saw more of his passes either over the receivers' heads or almost at their boot laces, than I saw go to the midriff area. He was slower than usual, but he was also inaccurate with his passes.

As they used to say when I was still in the workforce, 50 years of experience means nothing if it is just doing the same thing over the 50 years. The total of Phipps' experience amounts to spraying his passes all over the shop. That sort of experience is of no use to anyone. And it seems he...

That's right Reg, but he just didn't have the number of involvements that the other three had in the game. Big effort by Sio to stay there until around the 72nd minute.

That's not the main problem. The main problem was their poor decision making and even poorer kicking from hand. Simply handed the ball back to the Irish in a strong position for the Irish. And not every kick was under pressure, but I can't remember even one in general play that could be called...

    June Internationals not involving Australia

Definitely no intent by the French fullback. Purely and simply an accident, even if judged to be careless. Never should be a red card because there is simply no foul play. OTOH, there was complete intent by Cane to hit the French half back (from his blind side too!) and at least keep him out...

I would like your post Derpus except for the comment regarding Gordon. Joe Powell is in the squad and should start if Genia isn't available. Then bring Gordon onto the bench and piss Phipps off altogether.

Rather easy to allocate the 3, 2,1 this game. Only three players worth points. Pocock, Coleman and Sio. All the others were rubbish, with Foley and Beale the worst, not far behind was Folau. Worst game I've ever seen from him. Phipps was his usual self spraying balls everywhere but at the...

The nightmare is happeninhg. Beale and Foley having woeful games and Genia off injured. Better smarten up in the second half or be ready for a towelling. Not kicking would be a good start. Wallabies have hardly had any ball and then either Foley or Beale puts in a dreadful too long to be...

Yeah, but close to the line the defenders are going to try to stop you even if they are off side. Penalty everyday with the chance of a penalty try and yellow card. EDIT : It's almost as good a sure thing as a well constructed maul for which there is practically no legal means of stopping it.

I think you might be right MST, but I also think most people will think we're being a little disingenuous if we say so.

Smiler is a better back rower than lock imo, but he is an excellent jumper in the lineout, so will be good value there for Sungoliath.

Reg, I think Blyth will ultimately be the better all round player of the two.

And if it's done quickly (a la Aaron Smith) it mostly catches the opposition on the hop and if the defense doesn't open up, it most times is off side and gives up another penalty in better position for the attacking side.

Must have been why the Brumbies were chasing Pete Samu when all and sundry thought the back row was well a truly taken care of for next year.

    Waratahs 2018

Good to see Swinton in the side. He and Swain were, in my opinion, the best of the U20s locks last year, but missed out most occasions to Hockings and Blyth. The two Sw's were a step up in aggression on the two reds locks. Swain has continued to develop into a promising player behind Carter...
