Is it head to head within pools and then points difference outside of the pools for the third place sides?

That's not even mentioning the established pathway that League teams have for getting those promising touch players and track athletes into their Pro systems. Much harder environment for the men's coach (which is one reason Walsh wont take it on)

I would think identification isn't the problem, it's compensation that's the real issue. Tim Walsh can get the best players he can find because he can pay them more than just about anyone else. Friend can't.

Just had a bit of a look at a loss If Kenya beat Japan by plenty, and we have a close loss plus other results go as expected, we might sneak through (Japan +0, we're -3 points diff at the moment

Wasnt really a comment on Rugby Sevens as a sport though, just on the female event. Now I'm not sure that's any better to be honest.

Was just wondering how many people will end up watching it. Might end up as the most popular game of Australian Rugby since 2003

I wouldnt be holding my breath on too much of a turn around. The new CEO will be wanting to get the expenses as high as possible in this year - he can look like the hero in the year after.

    The Wallabies Thread

There's 2 answers there Firstly, on the end of year tour when he's not staring down the wrong end of the record books and barely anyone in Australia is watching. But secondly, when he has an experiment that isn't significantly worse than the older guys. There isn't anyone worth putting in at...

The argument's there, but we are on 4 losses in a row, with a couple of Bled games up front, then probably(?) Playing the Boks to avoid a pro-era losing streak. Cheika can't afford to do too much experimentation at the moment.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Couple of interesting snippets from Gideon Haigh's article on the ARU thread. ---------- FFA now make three quarters of their revenue from domestic leagues v the Socceroos, a five years ago that ratio was reversed. But the kicker.... Owners have lost $300m in the competition’s lifespan, and...

Digby (or anyone) wouldn't have a contract with the ARU unlike all the Players with the Australian Super Rugby teams. Not an insurmountable problem but something that would need to be worked through

Terrific (long) piece by Gideon Haigh on governance in Sport in Australia. The ARU is mentioned a bit, but it's more about the challenges of managing Sport here generally. http://trib.al/zkBsJwl
