Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

And now that's been corrected we have over 100 professional rugby players playing overseas! ;)

Presumably with an ARU topup as well.... I wonder how that works contractually if he retires/is dropped

    How to fix the wallabies

Is he getting ARU money on top of the force del?

    How to fix the wallabies

One of the ways that the ARU cab subsidise the Rebels as well. Strategically timportant contract. Hopefully they can find some for the force as well

    Western Force 2017

Suspect it might be worldwide coaches rejecting the salary that aus super Rugby are offering

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

Are you saying the ABs bugged the Wallabys! :D

    The Wallabies Thread

Heard that Simmons has been struggling with the back injury he aggregated in the first test against England. It's not bad enough to stop playing but not improving either which may not be a good long term sign.

Isn't the implication that if we have selected three quality jumpers, which we probably have, then the issue is not with the jumpers......

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I wonder if it's another case of rugby league getting their act together in the 80s with State of Origin blossoming, the NSWRL expansion outside of Sydney and the increased money which started flowing into the game. Here's the 1990 team for comparison - private schools dominating 1 Nicholas...

    Reds 2017

The Reds couldn't offer someone like Gill substantially more money though could they? Unless the ARU kick in some topup there's a limit to what the Super Rugby clubs can do financially

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

So when and why did it change? I'm guessing if you looked at 1990 it would be much more like today than this one?

    Rugby TV Ratings 2016

Doesn't look like any of NRC ratings are going to get reported by the usual sources. Some other interesting ratings from this weekend. AFL women's game FTA - 746k (Metro+regionals) (!) Storm v Sharks FOX - 480k (!)

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

The guys that get officially named in the squad get a per diem and expenses paid (os flights?) I think you actually have to run on to get a match payment - one reason why coaches often get everyone on the field if only for a minute at the end

If AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) was selected by Cheika, would he have to turn out in Gold?

    Reds 2017

Nabuli turned out to be pretty good value. I reckon the history of Cross coders has generally been pretty good, especially if he/they aren't on big money. They bring instant gratification which is worth something at least. Goromaru would be close to the worst ever signing (and I don't think...

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

Australia weren't much good in the late 60s - we won one game from 14 from 1967 to 1970 and that was a one pointer against France who were equally as rubbish (they were in the middle of their own 9 game losing streak) 3 wins from 25 from '67 - '72

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

So what should Cheika be doing with players that can't meet the basic pre-requisites?

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

You have to develop strategies for the players you have, not the players you want. DHP has issues with missing tackles. Foley has issues with clearing kicks. etc etc The coach has to take this into account and develop a plan around it. This is why we can keep blaming Cheika - they are...

    Wallabies v Springboks - Suncorp, Brisbane, 10th September 2016

DHP has missed a third of his tackles in the last two Super Rugby seasons, and been in the top 20 for missed tackles both years. Izzy as an example has way fewer misses (24 v 8) It shouldn't be a surprise to the coaching staff that he has issues one-on-one defence. He has to do better if he...
