    Shute Shield 2017

Someone over at The Roar is claiming the Shute Club Presidents have voted to extend the season as a means to directly compete with NRC. This is bullshit, right?

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

Well, there is a solution for SA/Arg but it will of course come down to money. And that is the essentially a pre-existing Argentine conference already in place. The Compenato Argentino. If financing could be found then we could split Super Rugby in two and run two separate comps or 'divisons'...

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

Okay, tinfoil hat time. I think the NZRU are well aware of the potential of a competition that could gain traction in our market between both us and them. Of the three we have the most growth potential and well frankly, money. And that is why they cling to SA. Because they have a fear that if...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I'd imagine if it were to occur it would be a Uruguayan based and administered team that sources talent from Argentina or some such.

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

I'm not against this at all. The question how best to go about it? We could go down the path of looking to split Super Rugby into four 6 team 'conferences' with the Sunwolves joining Australia, Fiji joining NZ, SA by itself and Argentina using their Compenato Argentino structure as their entrant. Each...

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

The Top League underwent a recent reshuffle in order to accommodate the Sunwolves pre-season needs.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Uruguayan Rugby has and continues to build closer and closer ties with Argentine Rugby to the point they are increasingly integrating their club and provincial Rugby into the Argentine system. So a combined team isn't as far fetched as it may seem.

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

There's little to no chance of dropping a franchise from SA without dropping Africa completely.

    Americas.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Tonga much like Samoa are no chance. For differing reasons. Samoa has been crippled by corruption while Tonga just hasn't the resources or infrastructure to support a team.

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

Sunwolvew drew about 8,000 a game. Which looked poor in the 50,000 seat National Stadium but in a smaler stadium such as Jalan Besar it would be a good fit. Would have to be a largely imported team of course. If not entirely imported.

    Fiji into Super Rugby?

If this Fijian team came to be ideally we would revert back to the three conference system that existed up until this year. The Sunwolves would join our conference, the Fijian squad the NZ and SA would cull one of their franchises to bring that conference to 6. same as before. Two rounds of in...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

In other news. The IRFU has just announced a partnership with the University of Notre Dame. The agreement appears to cover a range of aspects including player and coaching development as well as facilities and commercial opportunities. To add to that AEG has launched its Rugby Division.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I honestly don't think the extra value comes from domestic viewership of this proposed team. Much like Super Rugby itself it would be as much about international viewership as it is about domestic.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

According to the article the proposal already has backing to the tune of £20m from four international companies and two equipment companies.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I agree with the culling of the Kings. But the SARU are currently in talks with the guy behind PRO Rugby about either buying or partnering with the franchise/province. A second Sth American team is needed and I agree re: location. I actually want keep the Sunwolves. I think they added...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

So would I. Think either a solely Fijian or a Fijian based PI team would be a fantastic edition to Super Rugby and would be competitive from pretty much day one. Would also allow for more balance to return to the competition. Which is what I think hurt Super Rugby this season. Revert back to 3 conferences of...
