    Where to for Super Rugby?

One achievement at least springs to mind Half. He does have a unique ability for catching the blame for every (poor?) decision that's even tangentially made about rugby in this country.

    Australian Rugby / RA

The ARU is believed to be announcing a $3m surplus for 2016. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/aru-to-announce-2016-surplus-amid-super-rugby-silence-and-uncertainty-20170324-gv5py6.html Disregarding all of the Super Rugby debacle going on at the moment - it's good to be back in...

What were the stats for last year? Has there been much of an increase?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Interesting to see the criteria spelled out. Any one of the Brumbies, Rebs or Force could fall out of that depending on who's doing the evaluation and the weighting they give each category.

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

The top 20 "multi-channels" get published, they're pretty dominated by the kids shows on ABC2. On Sunday, number 20 was a small house show on ninelife in primetime at 127,000. The replay at 8am on 11 is (probably) going to be much less than that. That time and that channel have pretty tiny...

    Refereeing decisions

Ever seen that part of the law blown? I don't disagree, but just don't think there's any desire by anyone at any level to stop that sort of move

    Refereeing decisions

You're allowed to "peel off" though once the ball has been thrown

    Refereeing decisions

We've seen a couple of nicely taken tries from the Crusaders against the padding of the posts recently. My question. Are defenders allowed to stand there, in front of the posts, with their heels against the padding?

Round 5 - Jaguares v Reds, Jose Amalfitani Stadium, Sunday 26 March @ 7:40am AEST

Got literally a couple of minutes at the end, on for Duncan P. No impact

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

We've been here before Half, the ARU has the Game On program which mirrors what the FFA have done with their program http://www.aru.com.au/gameon/home.aspx Both programs use fed government money but the schools need to apply for it. There may well be a significant level of difference in the...

Round 5 - Jaguares v Reds, Jose Amalfitani Stadium, Sunday 26 March @ 7:40am AEST

I always just assumed he was feeding the rumours about a possible Reds gig to drive up his value for the Bath job

Round 5 - Jaguares v Reds, Jose Amalfitani Stadium, Sunday 26 March @ 7:40am AEST

My position is that the Reds could have the best discipline in the comp, instead of the worst (50 penalties!), could have no yellow cards instead of 6 and a red, and it still wouldn't matter if McIntyre is playing 10 because he isn't good enough at this level (edit, and neither is an injured QC (Quade Cooper))...

Round 5 - Jaguares v Reds, Jose Amalfitani Stadium, Sunday 26 March @ 7:40am AEST

Jake McIntire isn't good enough to be playing Super Rugby. Unfortunately, so much of this angst stems back to that. A competent, fit 10 makes such a massive difference, and with Jake and QCs knee, this team has barely had that at any stage for years

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

The ARU insurance only covers "club rugby" Dave, and specifically excludes schools and school activities. Up to schools to have insurance in place for any sport or activity that they sanction/permit/allow

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Just for context - back in the day what was the geographical extent of union in primary schools? Was it a northern Sydney thing or bigger than that? Country areas? I'm pretty sure union has never been played in Queensland state schools, and presumably not around the rest of the country either...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

This presumes that in a global market place for players, we can recruit significantly better cattle under a salary cap that's significantly less than the teams we would be competing with for players

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The ARU and RUPA have a collective bargaining agreement whereby a fixed percentage of all "player generated revenue" must be spent on payments to players (it's around 30% IIRC) So presumably they're only spending that amount (and they were exceeding it in the JON era) then they simply can't...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Isn't the big issue that the ARU has absolutely no power or probably even any influence over against whom the GPS etc schools play?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The 2001 number seems much harder to believe than the 2016 one to be honest. https://www.clearinghouseforsport.gov.au/Library/archive/digital_archive/rugby_union 2002 ARU annual report for 2001 had 33,700 seniors, 39,000 Schools (regular competition), 2000 women and 17,000 golden oldies. So...
