    ISA Rugby 2013

Enough of St Greg's & C'town :) Preseason for the 1stXV have started already - so what are the experts thinking ? Judging by Ando's survey and allowing for some people voting for more than one school, looks like everyone else is playing for second spot behind Auggies. Have to agree based on...

    ISA Rugby 2013

In NZ club & school rugby co-exist. Even in other sports many ISA schools field teams in local comps in soccer, basketball, netball etc. But the big difference compared to rugby in the Campbelltown area is, junior club rugby does not exist there. I hope anyone doing anything about advancing...

    Schoolboy Rugby needs a review?

We all agree the schoolboy comp in Sydney is a bit haphazd. A lot of alternatives been bantered about - but many suggestions seem to look at the problem as simpily addressing a 1st XV fixture list. It is not. Every rugby school will tell you it is about getting every kid a game in a safe &...

Q-Hands, I don't think anyone reckons you are bagging out Pius at all. You raised a very good question.

    ISA Rugby 2013

Hi Q-H, I don't think facilities, rugby heritage, location of the school or even how much focus the school puts on rugby is the issue. Only last year Pius had the Wallabies coach down at Oxford Falls mingling with the their rugby community so 'focus' is not the issue. My theory is, we are...

    ISA Rugby 2013

Hi Hugh, am pretty sure rugby at Andrews will re-surface in a couple of years. Only have to look at Chev since they moved to Div 2. Supporters & kids want to participate in an even contest week in week out. I guess that is the good thing about ISA having a Div 2 so a school like Andrews don't...

    ISA Rugby 2013

Thanks, Q-Hs. Was not aware of the 7s tournament. Is that going to involved all age groups ? If it does, the kids will love it.

    ISA Rugby 2013

I heard ISA Div schools voted against double round in 2013 and St Andrews will be competing in Div 2. Irony is since GPS & CAS are doing double rounds, there is no one to play pre-season matches except other ISA schools. defacto double round :)

    ISA Rugby 2013

Thanks for the update, Q-Hands. But I am not sure the claim that Stannies & Kinross having to travel 5 times more makes sense. Two rounds would be home & away. If anything, the Sydney teams who will have more travelling. Am I missing something ?

    ISA Rugby 2013

Anyone of you guys have reliable news if 2013 will be double round or not ? I did hear rumblings there are sports masters wanting to go that way as early as 2013. Been overseas for months so not kept up with the gossip. As I mentioned previously, for double round to work the crucial element will...

    ISA Rugby 2012

Hugh, thanks for your replies to my comments on the size of ISA Div 1. I am sorry you may have misunderstood the reason for my suggestion. I am not recommending weaker rugby school should be banished to some scrapheap along with old boots and ripped tackle shields. Quite the opposite – it was...

    ISA Rugby 2012

W-C Rugger, I think the number one criteria for any Div 2 school joining Div 1 will have to be the number of teams it can consistently field. At the minimum it must be able to field 3 teams per age group with the Opens stretching to 4 or 5 teams. It is not just a matter of the 1st XV being able...

St Augustines & Oakhill won their respective Waratah Shield semi finals fairly convincingly this afternoon.

Thanks Crofty, I thought Greg's had to be up there but not sure about bonus points.

    ISA Rugby 2012

W-C Rugger, I have relatives who were at St Greg’s and talking to them I appreciate it is naïve of outsider to simply say ‘go to rugby’. Their League heritage and legacy has to be respected. It would like asking Oakhill to suddenly field 5 Opens soccer team in a space of two years. But a...

    ISA Rugby 2012

Based on some rough sums I did, this result means St Gregs is second on the table although Augustines vs Kinross has a game in hand. Can anyone confirm ? Nonetheless, a fantastic result for Gregs and hopefully this give their rugby program a shot in the arm. ISA need them as a real force, not...

    ISA Rugby 2012

Hi Galah . Maybe a misunderstanding but I don't think anyone on this thread or anyone associated with ISA thinks school rugby is poorer because of the rise of St Augustine's. Personally I think they been great for schoolboy rugby ever since they beat Joeys at Hunters Hill and a strong CAS school...

Oakhill beat Pius by 50 something nil. Great result for Greg's. Sounded like Auggies just got out of jail.

    ISA Rugby 2012

Can't see Pius & Andrews winning this week. Pats will get home at Stratfield. Stannies vs Auggies at Bathurst .... I did read an earlier post suggesting the Auggies bubble has burst but looking at the body language of their players at CastleHill after the Oakhill match, I think there is still a...
