    Shute Shield 2017

Lol. New guys used to complain about landing on the Cricket pitches at certain grounds when they started playing Colts. Usually right up until we played Easts at Wollahra. That's when they'd get over them. Only place as hard from my experience was Campbelltown Showground No.2.

    Shute Shield 2017

It's definitely artificial. I've seen them installed and what tgey look like up close and it would surprise me if it wasn't.

    Shute Shield 2017

Looks good. If only all the SS grounds could make similar upgrades.

    Shute Shield 2017

A pitch Manly can only dream of hey Dave.

An alternative model would be to take the winner of each of the 5 major competitions and add rep squads from 5 other regions (let's say, Sth Aus., NT, Newcastle-Hunter/Illawarra and Nth Qld/Sunshine Coast etc.) and have them play off in a post season competitiom for the right to play in the next...

In my model they would essentially run their 1sts above their local comps. As for fairness. Well, if the clubs were truly honest with themselves they'd realise that taking such a step means some will inevitably be left out in the cold. It's just how it goes. You issue a set criteria and only...

I have suggested on the Shute Shield a similar model. One that essentially kept the Rams, Rising and Spirit in play as well as either a club or rep squad from the ACT alongside 8 clubs (so four each) from the Shute Shield and QPR. Could be played during the club season as a separate...

    Back to the future.

I had my TV set up with Super Rugby and my all-in-one desktop with the Club games watching them both. So I got to see both. I'll talk about the club games. I enjoyed both. Certainly made for enjoyable viewing and the atmosphere seemed quite good. It wasn't Super Rugby nor NRC level but it was good Rugby...

I may have started the thread but I actually am not a fan of cutting any teams. I'd prefer to keep all five.

Just a suggestion. Either way, you will need at least 6 teams in each conference for your two tiered model to work.

    Back to the future.

There are alternatives. Like a team from the Islands. Or if Argentina cannot manage a conference or a 2nd team for that matter then the Jagures. Or if SA nix the Kings and the Wild Knight bid for Super Rugby it could be reworked again. The point is, this model is very flexible and offers a great deal...

    Back to the future.

As I mentioned before it can work with anywhere from 3-8 conferences. If three is the better option go with three. Or four. It just depends. I think this format has a lot of appeal. The Pro12 are assessing their future at present and I think this model would be ideal if both they and SAZAAR...

    Back to the future.

The strength of this model is its flexibility. Can work with current three right through to 8 conferences. It's all dependent on how many teams you want. But in regards to 5 conferences. The three core conferences are the Aus, NZ and SA conferences. The SA conference is already 6 strong so no...

    Back to the future.

It's similar but different. The two distinct phases are different as with the S15 format mixed derbies with games against 4 teams from each of the other conference. The first phase is purely domestic based. In the second phase instead of the competition you get to play a better mix of teams...

    Back to the future.

I actually think a two phased Super Rugby would be more valuable overall. Phase one beinga 10 week 'domestic' phase and then a 5 week 'international' phase two to qualify for finals. This model wouldn't add any more length to the season. In fact it likely could be run and won in 18 weeks and be...

    Rebels 2017

Well, the Brumbies spanked the Canes in the first game of last season, so.........there is hope.

    Back to the future.

The Georgians have zero to no chance of getting into the 6N unfortunately. But the likes of Scotland and Wales are looking to play Tests against them in the next year or so. And Italy is in their sights for 2018. So they are beginning too get the bigger nations. I'm all for these new leagues...

    Western Force 2017

It would be interesting exactly how much less a TT competition would be worth against how much would be saved.
  19. WorkingClassRugger

    Back to the future.

I actually thought what JON suggested made sense. Revert back to the S15 model. It worked quite well. The problem is, Argentina sits in a part of the world where Rugby is still developing and is still years away from being ready to be truly competitive. They already have the structures in place...
