    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Having watched the video again and thought about it more, maybe the idea of a super schools comp does have some legs, assuming schools are willing to participate. Say the top rugby GPS group joined a top comp. They could still play GPS rugby, but only with their thirds. In this event, they...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

My heart sank watching this video. I saw Scots play in the sevens and was impressed by their speed and size. This was a massacre and came on top of the Scots' win over Joeys (53-7) and Kings (36-19). The Shore boys really tried, I saw boys fling themselves bravely at running players almost twice...

That's a huge loss. mmm. Thirds. Are we going to have most of the GPS Firsts in this comp? On results, ditto for the thirds.

It was bloody cold at Hunters Hill. I fear it beat me. I came home after watching TAS Firsts. And thank you Tahspark for the congrats! On the firsts, like last year, there are some fast TAS backs. Like last year, and as SJC found, if you let them get away you are in a degree of trouble...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Now that the real competition, ie the thirds, is getting underway, I'm off to SJC shortly with camera to watch the TAS teams. I agree with earlier comments that SJC should win, as well as the comments about depth among the minnows. My hope, perhaps forlorn, is that TAS's pre-season games will...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Re TAS vs Grammar in the 3rds, I said in an earlier post written after the Scots 7s that based on that and the few early TAS games, I thought that this year's TAS team wasn't as strong. Now as a possible indication of SGS depth, the results of the top games were 1sts G 22-0, 2nds G 8-7, 3rds...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

As, I guess, one of the main TAS watchers on this forum, I have no idea how the boys will go. I watched the TAS team in the Scots Sevens; the firsts were beaten by Farrer; they haven't had a lot of pre-season games, although a number of the boys have had rep experience. TAS is involved in...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

I am suffering a rugby drought! The first TAS trial won't be until 17 May, the first GPS game 14 June. Not living in Armidale, I can't get to things like the very large juniors carnival. On boys on this forum, the more the merrier. Any TAS boys present? I think some of this Sydney lot deserve...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

The only other Sydney school playing was Westfield Sports High. I stayed the whole day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I took a friend who had never seen rugby played; she was converted. The crowd favourites were the PNG Boys from Ok Tedi playing as OTML School Boys. They played tough, open rugby...

Thank you. Much appreciated. I shall try to get to see at least some of the games.

Can anyone give me details of these games? I would like to watch, but don't know when the games are on.

Did any body see the Northern Inland vs the ACT U17 game? Northern Inland lost something like 52-5. I ask because eleven of the Northern Inland squad were from TAS - they had a wonderful time, by the way - and this might give a clue to the prospective strength of TAS in the 3rds comp.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

For those of us with an obsessive interest in the third's comp, is it worthwhile starting a new forum or should we focus here? I am a little reluctant to suggest it, I don't like fragmenting discussion and it is meant to be one comp, but the thirds and below are different because all schools are...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

My information is that at least the thirds comp in 2014 will have the same format as 2013. So those of us who have a particular interest in that comp can start looking forward.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

My first reaction, strokeside, was to think of the difficulties! It would mean an early morning drive start for the boys, and I don't know what the facilities are in those towns although I've driven through them enough. Then I thought that's not a bad experiment, although for a slightly...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

This statement appeared on the TAS OBU web site from the president. I am not sure of the comments referred to. I am posting it because it provides another perspective on the current discussion. "I write as both President of the TASOBU and as the father of a boy in the current TAS First XV, in...

Thanks, QH. TAS is less ethnically diverse, thus highlighting the soccer issue. Not sure how many are coming back. Would greatly like to know. Looking at last year's results in the lower grades, my feeling is that the school will be competitive, but not necessarily do quite as well at top level...

A few random comments/questions. First, does anybody know when decisions might be made on the structure of next year's comp? If I read the comments correctly, this seems to have been swept aside by other matters. Secondly, on the competition between codes, I see that some 222 TAS boys played...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

Smaller populations plus distance do make things difficult in the country. This Armidale Express story describes the selection process at local level - http://www.armidaleexpress.com.au/story/1863211/future-of-rugby-finds-its-home-on-our-fields/?cs=12. Again, you have the TAS role as a regional...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

This weekend New England Rugby celebrates the years since its foundation in 1893. Over 600 players are returning to Armidale, including 13 Wallabies. I will do a proper story later, but this time I wanted to record one piece of information. In school rugby, the wheel turns. Scholarships or...
