2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

    Still, not bad.

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

Perhaps that figure includes the streamed games as well. They could be legitimately counted as Fox Sports broadcasts. Either it's good to see. Says it isn't too far from becoming a viable standalone product. Imagine what a bit of marketing and engagement would do.

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

If we can get this confirmed then those two games out rated pretty much any two Super Rugby feature Aus teams this season.

    NRC onwards and upwards

I'd like to see the NRC add more games to the schedule so cutting one team so cutting a NSW would make that more workable in the sense of 8 teams would work better than 9 in my opinion. Two pools of 4 playing each pool opponent twice plus each of the other teams from the other pool once for 10...

    NRC onwards and upwards

This coupled with better coordination with the clubs and I mean all the clubs not just the 12 current Shute Shield clubs could be a real boon for the game in Sydney. With a single Sydney and Country team run by say the Tahs (as the Qld teams are run by the Reds) events can be more coordinated on...

    NRC onwards and upwards

It would be a fairer overall location in my opinion. TG Milner is a nuisance to get to via public transport while Concord Oval is only a short walk away.

Turn up at the gate will probably be a good bet.

    NRC onwards and upwards

If this were to occur I would prefer in to be Sydney playing someone more central like Concord and NSWC doing as they do now. Taking games to the regions. I think that is the best course of action. And it follows closely to traditionally two structures.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

He's not wrong though. This year the Shute covered it's broadcast costs but the season before the ARU chipped in to ensure its broadcast.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

The Fordham Company is who pays for it buy selling sponsorships. Yes. That's not the same as a network paying up front for the content. Which is what you want in order to build a long term sustainable model.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

As someone who would consider themselves as an avid Shute Shield follower. You make a lot of sense.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

If not directly involved in running them then certainly with a greater level of participation. Particularly in designating talent and such. When someone signs for them they also 'sign' for one of the NRC sides for the duration of their contract. So they'll be with say the Rams for two or three...

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

The biggest issue with the NRC is that it is under resourced in regards to its marketing and promotion. At the very least. And underfunded in terms of player remunerations. I can also see an argument for the NSW squads to drop to just 2 teams. I honestly think this would be the most ideal with...

What to do about the Argies?

Yep. I actually think opening up the player market within the SANZAAR nations will actually make for a stronger competition all round. Let's be honest, the 'provinces' have long since transitioned from traditional representative squads to franchises anyway. Why not just embrace it. Just set a...

What to do about the Argies?

I tend to agree regarding keeping them as part of the RC but that they may be better suited to playing in Europe. I find the re-emergence of the Pampas interesting. I actually believe they have enough talent to run two pro squads and if the money can be found they really should. I'd like to see...

What to do about the Argies?

They've already stated that they'll look to select from outside of the current set up come RWC.

Australia v Argentina 7 Oct 2017 in Mendoza

Mate, you see so many instances of direct contravention of WR (World Rugby) orders around contact with the head in a game. Under their new mandates any contact with the head should be penalised. Not trying to excuse it away but just watch how many tackles start high with the legal range and end up around the...

Australia v Argentina 7 Oct 2017 in Mendoza

Yes, the official would have been within the rule of law to have sanctioned Koribete. But at the same time they were just as equally permitted to determine the mitigating factors of the situation and apply their best judgement to it. Just because they were allowed to sanction him doesn't mean...

Australia v Argentina 7 Oct 2017 in Mendoza

Cyclopath makes a good point by highlighting a key word. "May". A player may be sanctioned but it also suggests that a degree of discretion is appropriate. Taking into account all the factors and the situation and applying a commonsense approach to it.

Australia v Argentina 7 Oct 2017 in Mendoza

At the same time a degree of common sense needs to be applied. Koribete didn't slip out and make contact via his own momentum. He effected a really good spot tackle. Hopefully we'll see a replay of it emerge but from what I saw it was the head movement of the Argentine player that initiated the...
