Chiefs v Brumbies, Rnd 4, FMG Stadium Feb 22 17:05

Good to see Simone back. Sorry for Tom Wright - mumps again? Hopefully, Kuenzle gets a good bit of time on the paddock whether we're still in the game or not by midway through the second half.

    Un-Australian Activities 2020

I've long thought Marius is the best of the SA refs; in fact one of the best in Super Rugby imo. I can't recall any outstanding occasions where he has been heavily criticised for lopsided penalty counts. There have been times when decisions have been questioned and debated by fans, but that...

    Reds v Sunwolves, Rnd 4 2020, Suncorp Stadium Feb 22 19:15

Don't know Nomad. Berry was more than reticent to act against the Highlanders winger last weekend. Seems to be a thing with Aussie refs - they look like they bend over backwards to appear to be evenhanded, but in truth are more than harsh usually on the Aussie side in a mixed conference game.

Super Rugby Round 4: Rebels v Shorks, Ballarat

Appears to be two threads going for this match.

Just like the Tahs. Nah, don't think so. I reckon Liam Wright is next in line to take over from Hooper as Wallaby No 7. He might get found out a bit a No 6 due to his size (98kg iirc). Even though he could one day be the best of them all, Fraser might have to bide his time.

    Super Rugby Rnd 3 2020 Brumbies v Highlanders @ Canberra - Saturday February 15th 7:15pm AEDT

Highlanders' winger Sio Tomkinson suspended for the high tackle on Tom Banks after being cited post match. Foul Play Review committee chairman Adam Casselden said in his ruling that the incident was considered a mid-range offence, with an entry level six-week suspension. "Having conducted a...

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Jaguares v Reds - Buenos Aires Sunday Feb 16 10:00am AEDT

Defending a rolling maul is difficult for any team, even when the maul is executed legally (as the Brumbies do :)). But when the backs are allowed to enter the maul in front of the ball carrier just 1 or 2 metres from the tryline, it would be near on impossible. That was precisely what I saw...

    Super Rugby Rnd 3 2020 Brumbies v Highlanders @ Canberra - Saturday February 15th 7:15pm AEDT

My comment to Rugby Reg about Lolesio was to draw a direct comparison between the performances of Harrison and Lolesio against Matt To'omua. If you are familiar with my posts about Lolesio since the NRC last year, you will know that I do not see him as a No 10 and imo not the best No 10 in the...

    Super Rugby Rnd 3 2020 Brumbies v Highlanders @ Canberra - Saturday February 15th 7:15pm AEDT

Turning points in the game included the pass from Kata to Lolesio after the kick off. Every man and his dog knew that Kata wouldn't (couldn't) kick so the Landers winger only had to go straight to Lolesio. Kata would have done better to have run the ball to the 20m line as he did with the next...

A real cloud burst half an hour ago, but seems to be fining up from the South right now.

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Jaguares v Reds - Buenos Aires Sunday Feb 16 10:00am AEDT

The Reds' draw has been a handicap, but all is not lost. In 2018, the Brumbies had three away games (Sunwolves, Reds, Rebels) to start the season and iirc won in Japan as expected but lost the other two. They spent part of the season behind the other three Aussie teams on the ladder and were...

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Rebels vs Waratahs

Would we be able to tell the difference from Kearns' one-eyed ramblings?

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Rebels vs Waratahs

Couldn't agree more about the three players having bright futures and persevering with them. But the option that just might work in WH's favour is if Beale is out of the side altogether. I think his consistent waywardness is having a detrimental effect on the rest of the team.

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Rebels vs Waratahs

I have been a fan of Harrison since last year's U20s. I had high expectations for him this year, thinking he would be the best of the young No 10s because of his U20s and NRC form. I would expect he has more skills than just kicking the ball, but very few have been on show so far this year. As...

    Reds 2020

Well, the ratio of average age to experience has the Crusaders, Chiefs and Brumbies close to identical. That is of some interest to me.

    Sotutu is scarily good.

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Rebels vs Waratahs

He was disappointing because I expected more from him. At the beginning of the season, I thought Harrison was the most likely of the young No 10s to succeed and expected him to show a good set of skills from the get go. As I said, he has a strong kicking game, but so far, and especially last...

Super Rugby Rnd 3: Rebels vs Waratahs

KOB, MT kicked the ball away far to much in the first 60 minutes for my liking, but was probably the right tactic in the conditions. In the final 20 minutes he took control of the game and led the Rebels to a bonus point win. He will be in the running for the Wallabies No 10 spot. I thought...

Very promising hitout by Ryan, FF (Folau Fainga'a). When fit was the best No 9 in WA and one of the best in Australia.
