Shortlist announced for IRB Player of Year

I think Pocock topped the ratings for every tour game on here, but I suspect we're biased.

Gnostic's Wallby Ratings V Le Frog

I thought TPN played a blinding cameo, with some bullocking runs off the back of the ruck.

    Scrum Talk

I'm sorry if you think I misrepresented you, Gnostic. I was deliberately using hyperbole. :)

    France vs Wallabies, EOYT 2010

I agree. Turn the big blokes round, and let them know they will be turned round by doing it consistently. Then watch their wide defence disintegrate.

    Scrum Talk

Jets, I think the Brumbies playing BA at LHP will consign him to the bench, at best, for the Wallabies. Slipper looks the goods at THP and I hope that Link plays him there. If both coaches play both props at LHP then I intend to blame Robbie Deans. :)

    Scrum Talk

I'm mesmerised, again, by talk that Deans "accepts" a shit scrum. Has he said this? On the contrary, I would say that having been severely disadvantaged by it he is extremely concerned, but the scrum just hasn't stepped up. I'm sure the players themselves want to compete, but have been...

Player of the Year: 3-2-1 Wallabies v France, Paris

Spot on. We need a brute to go with the skilled man, a la Botha & Matfield. Simmons may be that man, although my money is on Douglas. In the shorter term we'll have Horwill and maybe a usable Vickerman. Lock is looking quite good for next year.

Player of the Year: 3-2-1 Wallabies v France, Paris

Sharpe dominated at lineout and kick off receipt. He was awesome. Again.

    Scrum Talk

I thought Slipper did fine today.

    France vs Wallabies, EOYT 2010

Clear skies and minus a few degrees - Brumbies players will be right at home. These are good conditions for the Wallabies - much better than we could have hoped given the forecasts a week ago.

Lance Free; son of Grumbles Growden

Unless the ARU provide a press release about this website for him to plagiarise, I can't imagine Grumbles actually being able to write about us.

Lance Free; son of Grumbles Growden

Scarfy, given that Lance defines his own brand as "Lance Free: A nasty, opinionated little man whose narrow views and felonious intent can only mean 'Trouble' with a capital T", I'm not sure he'd necessarily want you jumping in to defend him. ;) It takes time and effort to craft a lasting...

    France vs Wallabies, EOYT 2010

Not wet I think. Paris has had a few days of clear skies, against the forecast. But it will be cold.

    De-runting the backline

I've never seen Horne listed at 193. I'd say 186 may be right, and 88 sounds right too.

    De-runting the backline

If you compare Australia and New Zealand, the only backline position in which they have a significant size advantage (unless JOC (James O'Connor) plays) is in the centres. When Smith plays it is only Nonu that is substantially larger than his opponent. France have picked a big backline for this weekend, but...

    De-runting the backline

Fainga'a and Chambers in, Beale out? AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) the best fullback, and fullback his best position? Hmm, these were the Reds fans' arguments during the S14. Are we in a time warp here?

    France vs Wallabies, EOYT 2010

Their tackling percentages might be equivalent, but Barnes is a much stronger tackler. He takes players on whereas Gits takes them effectively (but more passively) low. That can (and often does) mean the difference between a midfield runner making the gain line or not.

    De-runting the backline

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is a dominant runner inside the opposition 22 - he just needs to learn to do the same thing from further out, when a try isn't necessarily on offer. It can only be a mental thing.

    Greg Inglis?

    Alright. I withdrawal. :)
