I was told on Friday that they had received some funding to build a shed to house weights equipment in. Could be a good sign and may attract a few players to the club.

As someone who has been involved with a few clubs in Brisbane, including Sunnybank, I can tell you that Sunnybank spends much less money on players than others. They are much more inclines to spend money on Development programs and gym facilities. A few other clubs could learn from this.

I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more of Tom Kingston this year. He did a couple of things during games I watched that excited me. I'm also not sure why any 13 would want to play in another position as it is an area of weakness for Australian rugby at the moment.

Each team is only allowed 1 OS player, apart from Rebels. They normally want a high profile player to fill this spot. I know at least 1 team that wanted him but changed their mind as soon as they found out he played for Samoa.

I was told this week that Rota Setu may be off to Japan. Would be a great result for him but not for Sunnybank. Probably would have picked up a Super contract if he hadn't played for Samoa.

Contacting old boys might be a good way to find a coach too. Someone who would like to stay involved, played at a good level and can't commit to playing and staying fit.

In terms of increasing numbers it can be a challenge. Maybe following the lead of junior clubs and holding a come try day could be an option. Do a few drills, play modified games, meet people from the club, go to the sponsor pub for a couple of drinks after (show them you are trying to increase...

Yeah it's true PW. The hope is that players commit to play club rugby early in the year but I have heard from a couple of coaches that they don't want to risk players getting injured. The biggest issue will be picking rep teams as the trials will now take on more importance as no GPS teams would...

You would think with Rugby Canada basing all of their Performance facilities in Victoria they would look at using these in any pro team set up. I guess their issue would be a ground to play out of. Not sure there is one on the Island.

I predict that Deans will use JOC (James O'Connor) as the back up 9 so that he can get more touches and make more unique contributions to the team.

So most teams must have started or be close to starting pre season training by now. Would be interesting to hear how things are going. I will also try and post some pics of the new gym at Sunnybank in the next few days.
