    Rebels v Waratahs Round 2 - 2012R02 - Dunlop Shield III

I'm more confused. Has Alcock picked up a knock or are the Waratahs trying to cover for injuries that might happen some time in the future (like next week, the cynic in me says)? At least we've got our hands on the two best 7's not already contracted and maybe better than some of those with a...

    Line out strategies

Certainly the one where Higgers went down and Mumm was penalised the ball went straight down the Reds line of jumpers, ie not straight. I wasn't happy when Mumm dived over but realistically what else could he do to have a chance to compete for the ball?

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

It is a well known principle that to work in Rugby media you MUST have no rugby knowledge whatsoever. Its why G&GR is so popular amongst fans.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Yeah but the Hurricanes scrum this year will be smashed by just about everyone except the Rebels. I haven't rewatched the Tahs/Reds game yet but I didn't think there were that many unnecessary penalties. I thought Peyper went OK in that area.

New South Wales v Queensland: 130th Anniversary

If there is a post to top this one then its going to have to be a beauty!!! Great work, Lee. Were you a detective in real life?

    Waratahs 2012

For the longer term health of the Waratahs, I am absolutely thrilled to see Jono Jenkins get a spot on the bench this week. I really rate him as a pure 7 and I think in time he might well establish himself as the number one fetcher, leaving McCutcheon to compete for a spot at 6. He certainly...

Tony McGahan back to Wallabies coaching set up?

I may have a slightly jaundiced viewpoint, but I reckon to be doing a good job as a Wallaby assistant coach would be just as dangerous to your longevity as being a bad coach. Deans would not like comparisons being made.

Tony McGahan back to Wallabies coaching set up?

On the ARU site only Deans and Jim Williams rate a mention in the coaching squad. With Williams supposed to be not reappointed this appears to be a full clean out. Obviously the assistant coaches were all to blame for the WC disaster and only Deans was worth keeping. Priceless. Strikes me...

    Blues v Crusaders Round 1 (2012)

Mr and Mrs Whitelock are providing 20% of the Saders team and the word is that the youngest, who I believe will debut if he gets on the park, is the very best of them. Scary stuff if one family can provide the black and reds with that much resource. Commentators will have their problems too -...

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

I was trying to avoid discussion of last year's refereeing of the second half as it can't change anything and probably better belongs in the mud-throwing match thread. Usually when a team's forwards get on top, the team goes on to record a win. Occasionally that doesn't happen, like in that...

    Waratahs 2012

On a personal note, Swat, I wish you had left this alone. I just got hugely angry all over again and it really is a waste of my energy. Until someone appoints a General Manager with the balls to clean out the deadwood and to set up a proper operation it will never be fixed. In a separate...

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

This thread was for those who wanted to rationally discuss how the game might go. The other thread was primarily designed to allow supporters to vent at the supposed inadequacies of the other team.

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

My point was obviously not clear.... However well the Reds defended in Brisbane last year, you would have to say the Tah forwards got on top, especially in the second half. They just couldn't finish off. But the team whose forwards get on top is usually the one that wins on the scoreboard...

    Waratahs vs Reds - Round 1 - 2012R01

This sort of analysis is helpful but needs to be added to if it is to be complete. I'll take just one example of many to illustrate my point. Everyone, me included, thinks Taps has huge potential and could be another Tim Horan. But.... in matching up to Tom Carter he is playing against a 12...

    Waratahs 2012

One concern I have with the Tahs squad is the lack of back-up goalkickers. Barnes supposedly injured his groin kicking for goal. Groins are not a place to get an injury, they take a long time to heal. So if Barnes goes down the only recognised goalkickers we have are McKibben and Hangers, who...

Reds vs Waratahs - the war before the war

We'll take it wherever we think there's a weakness. If that's a rolling maul straight up the guts while your loosies are seagulling, sobeit. If its straight through the 12/13 channel with AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to finish, we'll take that too. If its running the ball back from one of Genia's aimless box kicks, all...

Reds vs Waratahs - the war before the war

If they are out its Ulugia vs Fainga'a or Hanson. Ulugia would be the best scrummager of those three and he proved last year to be not too bad around the park, though he does tend to play tight and not like an extra seven. If selected, he won't be the cause of our demise, in the unlikely event...
