    Western Force 2012

With the Force in need of a good 10, there's one in Christchurch who has played the house down but is about to get dropped for some old lag coming back from his honeymoon. There's an absolute logjam in NZ of good young 10's so he won't get a shot at the Blicks any time soon. If you offered...

S15R6 Crusaders vs Cheetahs @ New Christchurch Stadium

Cheetahs first start against top-line opposition outside SA. This game I suggest will lay down a marker as to how well the Cheetahs have progressed since last year.

    Waratahs V Force - Superugby Rd 4

No, quite the reverse. I was, I think, the first poster to raise Poki's spear tackle and question why it was not properly dealt with. At the time the general consensus was that I was over-reacting. One week later and Digby's got five weeks for the virtually identical offence. And a...

    Waratahs 2012

How appropriate that this was posted by someone known as "Knuckles". The first Knuckles, as QLD coach, didn't give a toss about attractive rugby, was an exponent of ten man forwards-based rugby and now has the temerity to post in a Tahs thread about how unattractive and kick-focussed the...

    Waratahs V Force - Superugby Rd 4

In 1992, 94 and 95 if I recall correctly, the Reds played forward oriented, northern hemisphere-type football. They did not play expansively. When this criticism was raised, they just told everyone to go shove it, they were playing their game and if the rest of Australia didn't like it they...

    Waratahs V Force - Superugby Rd 4

Not in my opinion. It should be looked at in comparison with Kade Poki's tackle on AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). In that case the referee and AR, both from NZ and the citing commissioner, also from NZ, saw no offence whatsoever. Now, strangely, dangerous lifting tackles are all the rage. I hope all three NZ...

What if Greg Growden was on GAGR??

There are a number of posters on here who I consider to be a little deficient in some positive human characteristics, but not one can I think of that gets anywhere close to Growden for inanity, stupidity, self-righteosness or malicious gossip. I reckon if he started posting here he wouldn't...

    Waratahs 2012

In all the grasping at memories of who was last to front the law, I think #1 Tah's point has been lost. The incidents dredged up are from years ago. Ergo, the Tahs do not have a culture problem. They do have an attitude problem. If you watch the good New Zealand teams they are all willing and...

    G&GR Fantasy Rugby Competition 2012

I did forget to warn everyone I made Thompson captain for round 4. In an almost impossible to believe result he scored 5. My apologies for the oversight.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

After my rant last week it appears that referees are now clamping down on lifting to the horizontal. I don't for one moment think my post was the cause of that, just that the referees minders obviously thought it needed cracking down on after Bryce's no-show last week. Generally it is being...

I suspect that teach likes to go fishing.... It would be very good for the game if Bryce Lawrence didn't ref again and I'm not a Saffa.

    Waratahs V Force - Superugby Rd 4

While I agree that Barnes' support runners were just not there, some of the worst kicking in the game came from Barnes' boot. Overall I thought Hangers' kicking was more effective than Barnes' was. What incensed me was outside backs thinking that it was better to grubber, corner or chip kick...

    Waratahs 2012

Given the nature of his injury and the fact that it does not appear to be healing properly, it might be wise to assume he will be out till 2013. Devastating news for Mitchell, but also for Tah fans. To lose both your gun wingers to injury for the whole season is absolutely devastating. I...

    G&GR Fantasy Rugby Competition 2012

I am having an absolutely disastrous Fantasy season and we are only three rounds in. My failures so far have been: Round 1: Benching Lowrey for Lam (26vs15), buying van der Heever (6) and Taute (5) and leaving Mogg on the bench (30). Round 2: Buying Sharpe (1), dropping Todd to bench for Lam...

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Maybe the game on my tape was played in some parallel universe to yours, but in the game on my tape he was clearly lifted well above the horizontal and dropped on his shoulder. Perhaps someone can post that footage to clarify. I am unable to do so.

    Waratahs 2012

I'd like Jenkins to start, he would be a better match-up for Pocock. Lee is reporting on the match thread that Alcock is OK to play, but I would have him on the bench this week.

    Neither then did Sam Warburton.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Have another look at the tape. He was lifted above the horizontal, dropped at an angle of about 60 degrees to the horizontal and impacted the ground with his shoulder first. And it was not even considered to be a penalty. I rest my case.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Have another look at the tape and then see the guidelines. Maybe the guidelines are too harsh, but they are what referees are supposed to rule on.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

Well, it didn't take long for the judicial process to fall flat on its face. At around 51 minutes Kade Poki executed a tip tackle on Adam Ashley-Cooper right in front of the AR. According to the guidelines it was a straight red card. There was no report to the referee although the NZ...
