    Wallaby Watch 2014

Absolutely. We need to have a back-up 7 in every squad picked, especially the RWC squad. Also we need a couple outright speedsters as wing options if possible. I know the patch is looking a little bare right now but maybe JOC (James O'Connor), Speight and Tomane will be available next year along with a couple of...

    Wallaby Watch 2014

If we send in a couple of newbies against the Frogs in the second row they will be eaten alive. More likely that Jones will be introduced from the bench as a 5/6 option. That will allow us to have an 8 as the back row reserve. Palu to start with Higgers on the bench would be my go. Agree that...

    Wallaby Watch 2014

Is Mowen a better 8 than Palu or Higgers and is he a better 6 than Fardy? Mowen is a very solid player and a good leader but with all fit it's unlikely he would be first choice anywhere...............not even taking into consideration that he is departing. 6. Fardy 7. Hooper 8. Higgers or...

    Wallaby Watch 2014

Have not been here for a while but it is coming around to that time. It would be counter productive to select Mowen for this series because of his captaincy skills. He would not be the first chosen at 8 with all contenders fit and he will not be around for the foreseeable future. Select the...

    Wales v Wallabies, Cardiff, Nov 30 2013

Wales need to get rid of Phillips. He is a blight on their game. Simmons has been a surprise this tour and I think he will be Ewen's first second rower chosen from this point on. It is easy to forget that he is only 23. He is filling out and starting to use his size in the game. Not to mention...

The Impending Beale vs Folau vs Cooper debate

Beale should be looked at as a 13. I doubt he would make the Wallaby 15 but he could be very good there.

    Wales v Wallabies, Cardiff, Nov 30 2013

Many would have Stephen Moore right up there in the hooker stakes ahead of Hibbard on current form. Both are playing well and will have an interesting clash today. No-one is talking about blindsided king hits. Controlled legal aggression and just letting the opposition know that the Wallaby...

    Wales v Wallabies, Cardiff, Nov 30 2013

I withdraw my quip regarding losing two centers. I was under the impression(wrongly) that we were going with a two back bench. I still would prefer to see Gill on the bench in place of Dennis and maybe an outside back as well. The starting 15 looks good and the bench should have an impact up...

    Wales v Wallabies, Cardiff, Nov 30 2013

Dennis is a wasted selection. Better to be a little thin at 8 rather than 7. Fardy, Gill, TPN and Horwill could cover 8 at a pinch. Also it would be nice to have Gill on at the pointy end to close out the match. Not a bad side though. A couple of injuries in the centers would make it interesting.

Matt To'omua has been key in our recent improvement in the backs. Genia is slowly getting better and Quade is playing with confidence. Having Robinson, TPN and hopefully Gill on the bench will help see us come home strong in the second half but we will miss Toomuas influence in mid-field.

Thats a very good point. If they had been instructed to wear them the last 2 times we played Scotland the results may have been different.

I am interested to see how Lilo goes at 13. To'omua has more or less sewn up the 12 jumper but 13 is still a little up in the air. Lealifano may be a good fit.

To'omua is a huge loss. Lilo never made the position his own and really held is place more on the back of his goal kicking. Matt To'omua has been a revelation at 12 for the Wallabies. Hope Christian can prove me wrong in the next couple of weeks.

Boys being boys. Ewen has let them know what he expects and has shown them that he will not put up with any crap. Good on him. Nothing to see here..........move along.

    Ireland v Australia, Dublin, 16 Nov 2013

I just watched a replay and the two players that really stood out to me were To'omua and Horwill. Big Kev went poorly in the ratings from all but he got through a mountain of work. He made a lot of tackles, particularly in the first half, as well as hitting a lot of rucks as the second man in...

    Ireland v Australia, Dublin, 16 Nov 2013

I quite like the make-up of our forwards this week. Every bench forward, possibly with the exception of Ryan, should bring some real starch to the pack. Ryan may also surprise a few when given a chance. Kuiridrani and To'omua are adding some punch to our midfield. When the likes of Higginbotham...

The available props are doing the best they can. We are not exactly blessed with a scrum smashing prop stable at present. Where some may have doubted Robbie Deans' selections in the front row you would have to think that Link has got a pretty good idea of what is required. Slipper at loose-head...
