Maybe - but then again maybe not. The Tahs have thrown him a lifeline, so maybe he’ll settle in there if they do a good job with him. He is young enough to potentially play at least 5-6 years with them if all goes well. In the meantime he does provide the Tahs with some strike power that they...

    Brumbies 2021

That’s a good, strong squad. I’ll be very interested to see how the Brumbies young brigade of locks does this year. A lot of potential there. Aside from that it seems a good opportunity for a couple of the understudies to stake their claims to be the future starter. Specifically I’m...

I’ll add to this a bit. It seems that being an annoying, angry pest is sometimes considered part and parcel of being a good 9. But I don’t think that holds true. Genia wasn’t as good as a player when he got caught up in niggle. Neither was Phipps and neither is White. TJ Perenara is a niggler...

    Wallabies 2021

I dunno about Tate needing to toughen up. Tate McDermott is a strong defender and has no problems pushing back when he is targeted with niggle. He seems to have no problems getting involved in contact in and around the breakdown. He mightn’t get in the oppositions face as much as some, but I...

The initial point made by Members Section is worth revisiting IMO. He used White as an example of how a stint overseas can benefit a player’s development and argued it was a good move for BPA. I don’t think the evidence is that convincing. I don’t think Nic White has returned a greatly...

I think McDermott will get there soon enough Reg. He can kick, he just doesn’t tend to do it so much. Given he is mostly going to box kick from his own end it is something I think he can do a lot more off without taking away too much from what he is already good at. I wouldn’t be surprised if...

For what it’s worth, I reached almost the opposite conclusion. I though White was decent enough. I wouldn’t rate him as our best by any stretch, but he was one of a group of players who had some good games and not so good games. My takeaways from Nic White - - I thought he seemed to be very...

    Wallabies 2021

Latu has Froggy - but I’d argue he hasn’t done that consistently. He deserves credit for his World Cup form but, prior to that, I would have said he is as anything but a proven performer. He played as many poor games as he did good. He was a poor thrower, unfit and often ill-disciplined at both...

Merry Christmas to you too Dan and to all others, and a prosperous New Year. I hope Santa is kind.

I hope so. Scott-Young seems a quality young bloke - the sort of guy you was to see retained. I think he can provide some cover at lock to at Super level so, hopefully, we see plenty more of him. But I guess the last few years have seen the emergence more and more of locks/backrowers who get...

    Reds 2021

Hopefully we see a relatively low number of debutants given Thorn has introduced so many over the last 3 yrs and a good portion of them have become consistent players in their position. The question in my mind is which of the existing guys are going to have a break out year. I thought Dane...

    Reds 2021

I don’t want to down play the role or demands of a school DOR role, but I assume any role with the Reds would be on a consultant basis (and presumably a great addition to the CV). You’d think there would be some time available in there. I guess the problem would be whether he had the available...

Agree with all that. Anyone know if the Reds have bought in anyone to assist with their lineout? Also, does anyone know if Michael Wood is still with the Reds?

    Reds 2021

Hmmm. I hope not. BPA may be leaving, but he is contracted for this year and, unless the move of Nasser to hooker has already been deemed as a failure, the Reds would seem in a pretty good spot this year. BPA & Mafi established at Super level with Nasser a player with super rugby experience who...

    Reds 2021

I assume that would be part of it at least. I wonder if the Reds will be pushing for a foreign marquee allowance to allow them to include a foreign player or two on their roster. I wonder if their is even some concession here that they need to be able to deal with Piccone? From everything I’ve...

Agree 100% Froggy. I’m hoping a bit a maturity, experience brings that self-confidence & consistency. Based on his Super AU session I wouldn’t have had an issue if they had picked him, but nor did I have an issue that they didn’t.

Interesting that Tualima & Smith have been signed for 2 years. That shows some confidence in them IMO. If they were just seen as place fillers you’d sign them to 1 yr wouldn’t you and put pressure on them to secure an extension.
