    Tri Nations Game 3 New Zealand v Australia - Saturday 6 August 2011 - 3N2011

I think he is mark_s. My pet theory is that Deans sees him as a blockbusting 8 in the Palu mode.

We should set up a Wallabies selection thread for each franchise. Or one for the Reds fans at least. ;)

    5th Bench Spot - What's your preference?

I think you have the logic the wrong way round, tigerland12. Pocock being an 80m player means that what you need is injury cover on the bench, rather than a tactical replacement.

    Berrick Barnes

He also has a long enough pass for us to at least approximate our usual style of play in Cooper's absence, which also makes him perfect if Cooper needs a rest. With Gits or Beale we'd necessarily revert to a narrower game.

You sometimes need a guy who kicks. You never need a guy who crabs.

Reddy!, any hyperbole I might use pales before your ample virtuosity. ;)

Sorry Gnostic, I misread your post. I must admit I've never seen Vickerman counter maul - not indeed any Wallaby team from 'that' era (not so long ago - but seems so far away).

    No Sharpie

Deans may be resting Sharpe. No issues with that. But more likely he needs 'a Vickerman', and Vickerman is the only one of those we have. Obviously our coaches believe he's up to it fitness wise and believe he can be right for the RWC with sufficient game time. Vickerman and Horwill would...

Don't expect a good old fashioned Aussie ambush

I just hope the Wallabies win well and prove the naysayers wrong. It's like a disease in Australian rugby. We are a very good team. For some time we've been arguably the second best team in the world. And yet, so many people piss and moan. It's not just that they believe we should be the...

Sorry, I simply couldn't let this pass in silence. Sun Szu didn't write mantras. :)

Nonsense. Vickerman has been one our best locks ever, against all opposition.

Well, I'm now on for a few bucks at 10.5. Those seem like wrong odds to me.

No, that's not right at all. Sharpe won his place back through good play.

I think ten guys in a circle, moaning, is definitely a circle jerk.

    Boks v Blecks match thread

Yes, that's what the IRB claim, as do many other entities such as the bodies corporate of blocks of flats, but in fact they have no authority to create laws. Only the government and judges have the ability to make laws. I can call my son's bedtime schedule a 'law' if I wish, but it wouldn't...

Sadly our two strongest tacklers are injured: Nau and Palu. Of the current players, Pocock, Horwill and Kepu can all put on dominant tackles. Moore and Elsom are reasonably strong.

It's a funny one, that. They are called The Laws of Rugby, but individually they are rules. Pedantically, 'a law' refers to the law of the land.

    Tri Nations Game 3 New Zealand v Australia - Saturday 6 August 2011 - 3N2011

Everyone (well, many people) tends towards a default assumption of All Black invincibility before a big game. Statistically it has always been a safe move, and I can see why people do it. Not that I approve of the legs waving in the air approach myself. ;) One could alternatively look at some...
