Gee, you must be doing ok if $750,000 is considered to be "f**k all". To most of us that's a considerable sum of money for an employer to pay someone not to work for them. I assume that these are the facts to which you refer? David Pocock's gap year is Australian rugby's great big...

But unfortunately didn't involve playing rugby in Australia - even though the ARU/RA was paying him. Aren't we lucky that rugby in Australia is so financially strong that we can afford to pay someone for a year to go and save the rhinos in Africa (a very worthy and noble cause I might add - but...

If there's no Rays, there goes my interest.

Obviously he has a contract. Glad you agree he's still on the Reds payroll and hasn't been given the flick. I love people agreeing with me.

That stuff is ancient history. I can't recall any criticism regarding behaviour/attitude for years.

But he hasn't been given the flick, he's been kept on the Reds payroll so that no other franchise could use him.

Why would Quade at this stage in his career want to bugger off when he can earn $650,000 for playing club rugby in Brisbane near friends and family? I'm on Quade's side in this. My, my, the ARU accuse clubs of pissing money up against the wall. I'll bet none of the clubs besmirched by...

Indeed Wamberal, isn't it a sad situation that someone in Australian rugby doing something right is noteworthy?

The only grooming he needs should come from a hairdresser. We need appointments made on merit, not on some sort of pre-ordained pecking order based on who knows who. This sort of old boys club, promote/employ your mates attitude has got rugby to where it is today.

Among other things it means that the state is of the belief that it is unable to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he was in possession of cocaine.

As far as I know the changes apply to all levels of rugby in the southern hemisphere.

Yes, I well remember when I turned 18 and dad signed me up to join Harbord Diggers club. Prospective members had to front the board and get a lecture on the club rules and regulations, before becoming a probationary member for a year.

    Interesting research on concussion. http://www.bath.ac.uk/news/2017/05/18/youth-rugby-injury-prevention/

I think that most of us have given up on ARU/RA doing any work. You may or may not be aware, but the ARU/RA haven't funded SS for years. You seem to imply that SS clubs aren't grass roots? If clubs which have affiliated junior clubs down to 6s, plus junior rep teams, plus genuinely amateur lower...

    Shute Shield 2018

For reasons best known to themselves, the ARU have waged an undeclared war against the clubs for the best part of a decade. Interestingly in other Tier 1 rugby nations clubs are embraced by the governing body as part of the advancement of the game, whereas in Australia the ARU has taken the view...

Well not to spend on this part of the game anyway. They have enough to give pay rises all round in other areas.

I think you'll find that UWS already have a rugby club, which runs 4 grades and colts and plays out of the old Hawkesbury Agricultural College (now part of UWS) at Richmond. http://uwshawkesbury.rugby.net.au/

    Shute Shield 2018

I don't think that any major sporting league has come close to solving the issue. Even the AFL find it difficult. I agree that it's not possible to direct amateur or even part-time professionals to play at one club or another. It would be possible to direct Waratah contracted players (i.e. full...

    Shute Shield 2018

I think it's just the SRU which is made up of the 12 club presidents (from which they elect a SRU President and Vice President or possibly 2 VPs for the season to run things between monthly meetings).
