    Where to for Super Rugby?

A random number generator would do the trick.

    Global Rapid Rugby

My friend. Travel restrictions seem to be getting more and more stringent. Right now anybody arriving back from an overseas destination has to go into self-isolation for 14 days. It is possible that overseas travel will be disallowed totally in the not too distant future. We are not afraid of...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

There is a news story going around about a trial being conducted at U of Q for a possible vaccine. Very early days, ridiculously early in fact. Maybe one of Reg's unicorns! Here's hoping. If there's one thing we need at this awful time, it is a deus ex machina de luxe.

    Wallabies 2020

I reckon the stage is set for us to lose a lot of players. A huge decrease in revenue, means a concomitant huge decrease in expenses. There will have to be swingeing cuts across the board, including player salaries.

    Global Rapid Rugby

Wow. Maybe the incentive would be the survival of the game as a serious national sport. Does that matter at all? Incidentally, if Twiggy/Minderoo are happy to provide assistance (if that is what the one million dollars represents) to "support" a bunch of overseas based players, why would it...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Without sounding too partisan, do not expect governments to behave totally rationally. The opinion polls matter too much, apparently. Short term popularity seems to be the flavour of the month. Or day.

So each franchise could be required to mix the players up between their two teams. The national selectors could nominate the squads. IMHO for this to have any real appeal, the teams should be named the Reds something or others, the Brumbies something or others, etc etc.

The Soup franchises have a bit more visibility and tradition. Add the Brumby Runners, and the other Soup B sides. Plus the Force of course.

Presumably travel and attendance bans will affect GRR pretty significantly. If we are limited to Australian based teams only, maybe (blue sky thinking, admittedly) we could have something cobbled together which involved the Force and the four Soup teams, plus Soup Bs?

    Australian Rugby / RA

My fearless prediction: no matter what they do, it will either be (a) too much or (b) too little, or (c) just the wrong thing. There is nothing quite like the wisdom of the armchair spectator.

So what are the chances of some sort of hybrid competition during this enforced interregnum?

    Japan Super Rugby team

I don't think that comes as news to too many of us. Do you think we are a "rugby nation"? Of course we aren't and never have been; although, rather like the Japanese phenomenon, when we hosted the 2003 RWC we certainly looked like one. Every game was sold out. Countries like New Zealand...

    Japan Super Rugby team

Aaah. I do enjoy being quoted, even if it is out of context. I was commenting at the time on the widespread euphoria about the popularity of rugby in the wake of the World Cup. Maybe it depends on one's definition of the term "rugby nation". To me it would mean that rugby was up in the...

    Waratahs 2020

He was horrible at the club level, from what I saw of him.

    Waratahs 2020

Tyrel Lomax? BTW, Hugh Roach is a good club footballer, but is just too small for the big time. I doubt that either the Crusaders or London Irish can do much about that.

    Reds 2020

I suppose it might be possible to play games at much smaller venues. North Sydney Oval, for example. Then again, the Tahs probably have some sort of arrangement with Bankwest Stadium to play a certain number of games there.

This might have been mentioned, but Salesman Scotty said yesterday that he will be at the footy this weekend.

    Waratahs 2020

Hugh Roach is on the bench for the Crusaders against the Sunwolves in Brisbane.

    Wallabies 2020

France have included some players from last year's under 20s, if I understood the commentary. I have pointed out a few times, both Etsebeth and Retallick debuted at 19. If you are good enough, you are old enough.

Mate, if there are exceptions, surely there is no rule? Or am I missing something?
