    Where to for Super Rugby?

Too many people in Australia have a vested interest in the status quo. Even if the status quo is demonstrably in terminal decline. Nothing can apparently be done to reverse or even halt this decline we're consistently told. Nothing which other rugby playing countries have implented could work in...

    Shute Shield 2018

Not sure what the actual deal was, but their club was where developers wanted to build a shopping centre (Mandarin Centre). The shopping centre was built and Gordon were allocated a clubroom which was on the 4th floor and wasn't an attractive place to congregate. Not sure if it even still...

You realise that Chatswood Junior Rugby Club is one of the largest and strongest in northern Sydney? I actually agree with you in relation to the sale of the rugby club - a very poor management decision, followed by a sequence of poor management decisions by Gordon RFC. Obviously, RA...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It's behind the paywall, so I've taken the liberty of posting the whole article. Each week, the debate continues, with the focus on Super Rugby and the continuing failure of Australian teams to make any impact of note on the competition. I will have something to say about the whole Super Rugby...

    Shute Shield 2018

The defending side have already succeeded in slowing the game down by making the referee blow his whistle. Why should they be further rewarded with an even longer period of time to reset their defence? I have zero sympathy for the offending side in a penalty situation. I'd be giving maximum...

Indeed Rich. Very difficult to articulate a plan when it doesn't exist. I'm not even sure that they think there's a problem and I'm certain that they have absolutely no idea how to address it anyway.

The following schools have teams: Riverview, Shore, Waverley, Knox, Joeys, Alos, Barker, Cranbrook, Newington and Trinity. I assume that Dr L is keeping it at bay at Scots.

To give you an idea of what's happening at one school. AFL is in its second year at New - there are now two teams, a 9/10 team and an 11/12 team. The squads went on a tour to Perth in the last holidays and have formed some sort of link with Sydney Uni AFL club (who I presume play in the Sydney...

As I was told after the Newington boy suffered spinal injury last year - if the surgery is performed in the first 4 hours there is a reasonable chance of recovery and the more time elapses the chance of recovery decreases. That lad was lucky that he arrived at Westmead and there was a spinal...

I think Wiilliams has parted ways with Knox now. Even though he had a teaching degree, he wasn't/isn't currentlyqualified to teach in NSW

I see what you mean, but I suspect that the cure would be worse than the disease. Imagine the ABs if they knew that everytime they conceded a penalty in their own 22 that the referee would stop the game and allow them to get their defence set.

Rob Egerton teaches science at New, Matt Carraro teaches PE, Joel Wilson teaches at the prep, Trent Dyer teaches PE, Stephen James teaches at Kings, Paul Cornish teaches Maths at Waverley. If we went to SS players, there are at least 2 current ones teaching at St Augs, plus a former Eastwood 1st...

Aussie rules has a higher risk of all serious injuries - from concussions to limb and joint injuries that require surgery. Without having the data, I suspect that the only area in which the rugby codes have a higher risk would be in the catastrophic spinal injuries - and these are thankfully...

Think you'll find that there are ex-Wallabies and super rugby players who have recently been employed as teachers at a number of other GPS schools, they all have the appropriate teaching qualifications, but one suspects that their rugby pedigree didn't hurt.

Pretty much any other sport at schools can be coached by anyone - not necessarily coached well, but coached without putting player safety at risk. However, coaching rugby requires the ability to teach players how to execute certain skills to a certain level of proficiency otherwise there is a...

But why would you want to give the team which has just given away a penalty the ability to be offside? Wouldn't they just stand on the mark and not let the other team take their advantage? There's already too much slowing down of the game IMO.
  19. Quick Hands

    Shute Shield 2018

As long as the players are retiring and making no attempt to tackle, they aren't offside at a quick tap. They can't become involved in the play until they have retired 10 metres from the mark though. For example if Team A is awarded a penalty and it's taken quickly and there is a player from...
