Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Registration fees for kids sport is predominantly insurance and direct costs (Uniforms, court hire, etc) Not a levy imposed by the national ruling body. Maybe the levy doesn't have a big impact on registrations, but it's certainly not a value add.And when compared to their competitors increasing...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

No, it's about how the ARU values junior participation. They view it as a cost, whilst the other codes are lining up to throw money at participants. The other codes dwarf Rugby's spend on junior participation, both in dollar terms & more importantly as a percentage of turnover.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

If the ARU business model is dependant on knicking tuck shop money from kids then it's time to give up. The ARU turns over circa $100M pa. The levy they impose on grassroots Rugby raises a negligible amount in the scheme of things. They should be investing more in grassroots, not treating it...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

How about a a start, they stop levying kids to play the game? Rather than helping the volunteers at the coal face, they keep making things harder for them.

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

Gallup was quoted extensively as dreading phone calls telling him of the latest disgrace. Even though he knew "it was good for business" Go figure. I don't think he recommends it as a business strategy for any code,somehow.......

I prefer the no Dickhead philosophy. The tantrum he threw about not being selected in the national side reflects poorly on him

    Waratahs 2017

Next year will be his fifth year as a full time professional player. If this was his first year in the program I might agree that he still had enough upside to persevere. But it's not, he clearly has not progressed as anticipated. Anyway time for me to invoke one of the rules I've made these...

Then what role will Horwitz play? I think it's universally acknowledged that Simone> Horwitz. If he is used at 10 we are surely doomed.

He is an old 22. This is his fourth year as a full time pro. We didn't need him this year,we needed a body in the jumper he wore occasionally. He has had a good NRC this year, but that's his ceiling IMO. Id rather they gave an up & comer like Newsome a go, than continue to persevere with Horwitz.

    Waratahs 2017

It seems to me that his problem is that he decides what he's going to do before he gets the ball, and does not react to what the defence does. That's why when he pays at the line at higher levels he fucks it up continually. Throwing long balls well before the line rarely adds any value.

How insightful from the RFU head. If we were rich,we wouldn't be poor. When has the ARU ever been in a position to own a stadium?

Rugby League players who could have/could make the switch

It's covered extensively in "that other " thread. The answer is a resounding yes they do,regularly.

That's really interesting. Not so much as the numbers, but my perception ( which comes totally from absent mindedly watching the TV news) is so much different to the actual facts. ......Which probably explains why politicians have reduced policies to sound bites

You keep quoting Sydney FC, what about western Sydney or whatever they call them. Aren't they selling out every week? My perception is that they are going gang busters

Pulver is in his fourth year. When does it stop being JON's fault? As others have pointed out, he has done some good things, but junior development and support has been very poor.

Jeez how many second chances can McIntyre get? You could surround him with the AB backline and he would still come up with rocks. Any time he ball plays,it's an error, someone nearly dies,or he hits someone from the opposition on the chest. He does not have the kicking game of a pro. The only...

Yep,agree. QC (Quade Cooper) doesn't need another ball player next to him. He wants a strong ball runner, running the right lines.

NRC Round 4: Canberra Vikings v Western Sydney Rams

Really? I watched the telecast and his commentary was universally praised by those with me. I think he is substantially better than Burke, and is clearly the best of the NRC crew, Shepherd adds little value, and Benn Robbo says some really dumb things ( as an example, he thought a penalty goal was...
