Wallabies v Poms, EOYT 2010, Twickenham

You flatter me, tranq, but I have the view that strength and conditioning is one of the most important and least respected aspects of rugby. I also have a commercial incentive to be closely focussed on this profession. I have always had a very favorable opinion of Jason and the work he did...

Wallabies v Poms, EOYT 2010, Twickenham

I don't believe that it does, Gnostic. Deans's previous gig, the Crusaders, had a big focus on heavy strength training but I don't think they were lacking in terms of "dynamic fast ball movement". Also he is not coaching "the conditioning and strength training". Peter Harding has responsibility...

    Wallabies v Leicester Tigers

Even by your standards, LG, an excellent post, and whether intended or not, a good justification of the attitudes and feelings of Northern Hemisphere fans. We forget too often that rugby is a simulation of warfare, a subject about which the Europeans have much more knowledge and direct...

    Scrum - Wallabies Vs Wales

Wallabies v Poms, EOYT 2010, Twickenham

Unfortunately, Scotty, if you are getting "smashed in the scrum" you are unikely to achieve "dominance at the breakdown". Getting there fast is important but you have to win the contest. These are the two areas where power, physicality and technique are paramount. As I saw it we were outplayed...

    Scrum - Wallabies Vs Wales

Just wondering where you got that quote from, Rothschild. I am not questioning that it was said, just interested in the source.

Wallabies v Poms, EOYT 2010, Twickenham

Both viewpoints are valid. If someone is a prop uncontested scrums are shameful, but no one should be expected to go into the front row unless they have the requisite training and experience. It's only a game.

    TPN being flown to Europe

I am in total agreement, Hornet, but I think that everything after your exclamation marks is superfluous. We're talking about a Test against England. This preoccupation with a knockout carnival devalues the importance of contests between nations and provides excuses for coaches who are unable...

Wales vs Australia, EOYT 2010, Millenium Stadium

Not to speak of the time taken to get to the piss house and back again, Lee. Of course Paris Tah may have picked up the French custom of flopping it out while riding in the peloton or in the middle of the scrum.

    Wallabies v Leicester Tigers

Usually, LG, your posts have the clarity of crystal, but I must confess that I am a little bemused by this one. What are we to make of: "a lass from the Australian Ballet ... slipped through my fingers about 50 years ago ... but her mother came back after deciding not to go somewhere." Are...

Wales vs Australia, EOYT 2010, Millenium Stadium

I'll have to stick up for Travi because he's a Uni man, even though he comes from Melbourne. Just because we're bright doesn't mean we have to ask smart questions. The fact that most games in the British Isles might well be better played in Wellington boots could suggest the answer to his...

    Aussie 7s - a new journey.

Observer, I vividly remember Trent when he first came down from the Central Coast in 2008 to play Colts. I have not seen another player who was so quick between involvements. The nearest thing I have seen to the Eveready Energizer bunny. He was very light framed but with great potential as a...

    Aussie 7s - a new journey.

If true, observer - and the other four Sydney Uni players are certainly all backs - you have highlighted the reason why Sevens is such a profoundly uninteresting game for many of us.

    Brumbies 2011

I'm intrigued, tranq. Lynton Johnson? You don't by any chance mean Patrick? Although he would hardly fit the description, "great white hope".

    Brumbies 2011

I'm pleased to have that cleared up, tranquility. I'll be very surprised if McDuling is not a standout in the Brisbane competition. He'll also be noticed if he gets any Super time.

    Reds 2011

I don't disagree, TOCC. but some players are not enthused. In fact, I have reason to believe that that was one of the reasons that Weeks chose Melbourne. As soon as the Brisbane Grand Final was played he filled in as water boy for Sydney Uni each game.

    Brumbies 2011

Either way, E'nE, if that's who tranquillity's referring to, he has extraordinarily high standards or is no judge of a footballer. Both McDuling and Carter have the potential to go all the way, and the work ethic to get there.

    Reds 2011

Thanks for the feedback, Ash. I was overseas when the misnamed Baa Baas fixtures were played so I can't really comment on what happened there. What I do know is that Lawrie is an excellent scrummager and is more than useful around the park.
  19. Bruce Ross

    Reds 2011

I think there is no doubt he'll be playing for Queensland Uni after being advised by Lawrie Weeks and because he's very much a Uni man. But he makes no secret of which Uni he'd like to be playing for. As an aside, as a payback for defecting to Melbourne, Lawrie was forced to play out the...

Wise words at the post-Bledisloe IV press conferences

I don't know about being "schooled", Gagger. I find it hard to believe that you can teach someone to respond with that manic speed of delivery. He may be just naturally gifted.
