Wise words at the post-Bledisloe IV press conferences

With rugby being the most cerebral of sports, post-game press conferences in our sport are usually characterised by eloquence and erudition. By all reports Bledisloe IV was no exception. Richie McCaw set a high standard with his pithy: "When you have a bad day at the office you just have to...

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

Love it! Although perhaps "people who spend their entire sporting careers going backwards while wedged between two other blokes' arses."

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

Lee, what we were talking about was two long distance rowing match races conducted on the harbour on Sunday morning between the universities of Sydney and Melbourne - women's eights followed by men's eights. It was intended to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first unofficial race...

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

They were outclassed but it was great to once again see distance rowing on our fantastic harbour where there were quite a few craft following. Next year the races will probably be on the Yarra.

    Waratahs 2011

That is extraordinarily bad news for Horne who is extremely talented. I had assumed that his latest injury was related to his previous hamstring and groin problems. But it probably offers Cross the opportunity to get his career back on track in what should be a very competitive team.

    15 Man Rugby

I am prepared to give Lee, Bowside and Rothschild the benefit of the doubt and accept that they know what they are on about. It reminds me of going onto South African rugby sites where the posts start off in English but invariably end up switching to Afrikaans.

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

Scotty, I missed seeing this. My only question is what was the "Australian supporter" doing on the field? He's lucky the Test wasn't played in Sydney or he would have copped a $5000 fine.

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

I wouldn't complain about that Langthorne; I wish I didn't get it either. I haven't recorded the game so I can't go back over it to find examples. This was the first time in a long while that I didn't get to see a Wallabies Test while it was being played, and then I had to wait until the...

    Bledisloe IV 2010 Hong Kong

"What a difference a try made", as Stanley Adams almost wrote and Dinah Washington made immortal. I couldn't watch Bledisloe IV as I had to go to a Women's National League Basketball match, not watch the replay after midnight as I had to get up early this morning to go to see a couple of...

    Quade Cooper and Summer Digressions

Dougie. I almost never bag players but at my age you learn not to waste a good line.

    Quade Cooper and Summer Digressions

Dougie, if you think you can do the same with Quade come home soon. Your country needs you. Perhaps you might travel overland and climb Everest on the way.

    Quade Cooper and Summer Digressions

I hope you haven't been lying awake all night wondering about that, dougie.

    Reds 2011

I'd be surprised if there's much correlation between an athlete's 100 metre time on the flat and his time on a stair climb which apparently takes at least 80 seconds.

    Brumbies 2011

You Brumbies are a funny lot. Exactly how many minutes of game time has he been given? And how many of those were filling in at tight head? It's reminiscent of Luke Burgess's time in the city-which-has-no-city. What was it; five seasons during which his playing time would hardly have summed...

Tactics on the edge of, or past the law - discussion and analysis

... then dogging it. If you want to be a hard man and take someone out who doesn't see you coming, it's not a good look to run away when one of his team mates wants to take you on face to face.

    15 Man Rugby

Has it occurred to anyone that the young bloke might be an MI5 plant? He seems to know more about Australian rugby than any of us, with the obvious exception of Lee Grant.

Watching the Wallabies games on the web

Yes. the young bloke is on the ball as usual. Perhaps we could revive the Ten-Pound-Pom scheme on a one-off basis, ship him out and naturalise him.

    Waratahs 2011

Hangers has had an operation, Jnor, and should be raring to go for the start of the Super season. While he was injured he coached the Uni backline. I can't think of a better way for a five-eighth to further advance his knowledge of the most complex position in rugby than coaching a good...

    Waratahs 2011

fp, I assume that you just forgot Halangahu. He is arguably the one most likely to challenge for a starting spot.

    Waratahs 2011

You are right, disco. That is an impressive line up with quite a number of other quality players also in contention. Assuming all these players are fit, one great advantage that I see for the Waratahs is that although the team is loaded with Wallabies most will be fresh starting the season...
