This has it all - nut work, head stomp & king hit.

... then dogging it. If you want to be a hard man and take someone out who doesn't see you coming, it's not a good look to run away when one of his team mates wants to take you on face to face.

The team mate didn't really look like he wanted to involve himself either. Not a huge amount of commitment in his retaliation.

It isn't a huge one, but it is illegal AND FUNNY to watch- did anyone see the south African scrummie at the commonwealth games standing on the opponents feet while he was feeding the scrum? against the rules but quite funny to watch

Best response ever to a penalty for shoulder charging from a member of our club.

It wasn't a shoulder charge sir, he was going backwards so quickly I couldn't get my arms around him

and from the same player, defending punching an opposition player

He touched my penis!

All good starts. Great energy.

Anyone see McCaw at his best at 17m35s in Bled IV. McCalman takes the ball from the scrum base and is tackled by Cowan with Thorn coming in to pilfer. Pocock would have cleaned him out except that Sir Ritchie, standing in an offside position blocked his path. Just long enough for a penalty to be awarded against McCalman for holding on to the ball. Carter missed the penalty shot but on another night that could have been the ball game. Another one for the video???

As Scotty mentioned on the other thread, the AB infringement du jour seemed to be clearing out / obstructing past the breakdown. I don't see why our guys don't get physical / make a lot more hoo-ha when this happens to draw attention to it.

Anyone spot what the WBs were doing?

Richie is the arch blocker but very few watch games closely enough to appreciate the genius of the blocking runs he takes or the blocking positions he assumes - and the obstruction is only for a second or two. Come to think of it though: So'oialo was not bad at getting away with fiddling around on the opponents side of the ruck, either.

One of Richie's specialities is moseying back obliquely from a scrum to a position in line with his 10, usually leaving the bind a step or two early. Meantime the ball is still with the scrummie ready to dish out. The opposing flanker has to run through McCaw because he is on the line between where the opponent is and where the pass will be taken by the 10, 15 or winger coming from the blind side.

The point is that he starts the blocking run in front of the ball. It's one of his many finesse moves. It's not a criticism; it's a whinge that our guys can't do the same. They try a few things but they don't have the repertoire nor the exquisite timing.

Sure I know he is a world class player and doesn't need to do those things; but he does.

Francois Steyn attempting a Drop Goal from his own half.... in a Baa Baas Match... should be a sin-bin-able offence...

The story is that when Ackford (who was an inspector) was on the deck, Dooley (who was a beat sergeant), leant over him and told him:

"Pretty obvious you're sitting behind a desk, you soft bastard".

:lmao:

1. Everything every openside has ever done at a breakdown.
2. Everything every blindside has ever done. Anywhere.
3. Everything every loosehead has ever done in a scrum.
4. Everything every tighthead has ever done in a scrum. Peter Clohessy would like twenty-odd years of pretty much everything he ever did for Young Munster, Munster, Queensland and Ireland taken into account.
5. Hookers are allowed to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Or at the least being daft bastards who can never, ever, ever be left in charge of the beer kitty or keys for the team bus.

Nice story on Ackford and Dooley T78. :D :D

Where's the cape on Stringer? Was that photo taken in the HC final a couple of years back when he took his once in a decade run? [And not to the point but what is his nick-name?]

This has it all - nut work, head stomp & king hit. Tasty.

Yes, that nut work by Mendez, just before he takes out Ackford is really quite amazing.

Pretty sure it is also the same scrum (on the first try) that McCaw had kicked Pocock when trying to strike for the ball. Only about 3 offenses in 2 minutes and the ref is blind to all of them.
