Something's got to give folks! Penrith 46 v Randwick 428 across the grades and colts is not sustainable. I accept there are people working really hard to make Penrith competitive, but I'm afraid they're going backwards. Penrith 1st grade had beaten Randwick in their last 2 visits to Coogee but...

    Shute Shield 2013

Interesting that Nick F-J told Al Baxter on the ABC that he considered club rugby was THE THIRD TIER !!!

You don't sound like a whinger to me -- I agree with you completely! What we need is a body whose primary concern is the Sydney competition. We could call them the Sydney Rugby Union or something and they could have their own website ;)

Kelly has stuck with the young backline with Hepetema back in at 13 to replace Koteczky. Ingram replaces Speechley at lock (unlucky, played really well against the Rats, I thought). Neither Ingram nor Hepetema played last week.

Is that the actual outcome or your prediction?

    Sydney Subbies 2013

Good question, I've forgotten how we got here, just ignore us and pretend we're not here.

I'm obviously biased but I didn't think the Wicks deserved to lose, they played so much better than last week. But I don't want to take anything away from the Rats. Although they trailed on the scoreboard (or were level) for most of the game they hung in there. To be fair, it was a great field...

Can't add a lot to Sid's match report: (1) the only change to the Wicks run on team was Koteczky replaced Hepetema at 13 (2) David Harvey was on the bench for the Rats, replaced by Scott Bradley (3) Horwitz first touch of the ball in 1st grade was an in-and-away and pass to Aho to score in the...

Agree about Littlejohn. He looked all at sea in the trials and in the first couple of games but he's improving with every game and noticeably growing in confidence. He's very good at chiming into a backline and creating an overlap -- almost a lost art these days!

    The Mighty Two Blues

I'd suggest what you are all saying is that the Two Blues are playing as a team and no longer relying on a couple of individuals. As I've said before Leota is a class act and surely one of the best non S15 players in the Shute Shield. The fact that they can cover for him is a credit to everyone...

    Shute Shield 2013

I've just watched the Gower incident several times courtesy of ABC i-view (its about 27 minutes into the telecast) and I unconditionally withdraw my partial defence of Gower. He's a very big unit and he could have dealt with the interference with a nudge of his shoulder or an elbow to the chest...

I think you've summarised the situation perfectly Sid. I agree Carrick-Smith will be in 1sts pretty soon. He showed a big improvement last week. I'd suggest this is close to the backline that Kelly would have planned at the start of the season and I reckon he'll stick with Boileau at half as he...

Might be just an easing into the higher level.

Yes, he has, but not for sometime, and he may be a little too slow for #15. On the plus side Browne hasn't missed a kick at goal this year. I think the Wicks backline has been too predictable this year. Last week Browne passed the ball every time in the first half and Hepetema hit it up. The...

    Shute Shield 2013

You may be right but then again only one game is covered by the ABC from multiple camera angles with instant replays and I'm sure their footage would have been reviewed by Eastwood before deciding to cite the player. The commentators (and the on ground officials) didn't see the incident when it...

    Shute Shield 2013

What if he was a Gordon player? I don't condone what he did but I thought the interference was well after the lineout and Plotzkys was trying illegally to stop him getting to the ball. I'm still at a loss to understand how none of the officials (including Peter Marshall who was the TMO and...

David Horwitz debuts in 1st grade this week: interesting to see how he goes! Cayden Matehaere (Aussie schoolboys and Rebels Rising) is also making his 1st grade debut at #10 (Toby Browne is in 2nds). Pete Samu also back from injury at #8 and Tom Connor back in firsts at #7. Lots of potential...
