RWC Pool D: Wallabies v Fiji, Sat 21st September, 2.45pm AEST, Sapporo Dome

The big difference is that Uelese and Latu are big units that add a lot at set piece, particularly scrum time. Hopefully their lineout work is up to scratch. I’m sure all three will get a lot of minutes throughout the tournament.

It happened when we inserted a bloke from AFL(formerly from league) at fullback who couldn’t kick a few years back. We can now revert back to two wingers with strike.

Wallabies v Samoa, Sat 7th September, 7.30pm, Bankwest (Parra) Stadium

Right. Uelese to start. Backrow of Wright, Pocock and Dempsey. JOC (James O'Connor) 12 with TK 13 maybe. To'omua on the bench. Hodge, HP and Petaia in the back 3.

I guess so. On the other hand he is proven at test level and has has the runs on the board. In the case of Skelton his test career so far has been underwhelming at best.

Samu, To'omua, White, JOC (James O'Connor) and Jones were persuaded to return to Oz with the RWC coming up and squad spots on the line. Samu and Jones missed the squad with little opportunity this year. How was Samu going to make the squad with both Hooper and Pocock fit? You can’t carry too many shorter back...

I reckon Petaia will lock down one wing spot bringing pace and second fullback ability.

I doubt any Wallaby coach chooses a lesser player intentionally. If it’s touch and go they may go with one they know will do the job or one who has outstanding on the training paddock. In Cheikas case I believe he chose the game and style he wanted to play and then selected the players to get it...

Isn’t Maddox a 10 by trade? Might need to start grooming him.

Not to mention the front row, which should improve with age.

It’s also about building for the future and giving people experience and a lot about who steps in to the top side in case of injury.

But he would have to be the third or forth pick at OC behind JOC (James O'Connor), TK and Petaia. As a back 3 player as listed he is a wasted selection.

Foley has to go. We need two frontline 5/8s

Does Petaia have the raw pace of Banks or one of the other Fijian born wingers?

Dempsey a good option at 6 to balance the back row. Wright the most like for like for both he and Poey. They may as well take him along as he will be needed.

AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)............should have been Banks. We have adequate cover in the centres but need more speed in the back 3. Dempsey a good choice if fit.

They may take Wright. He had a few minutes against the darkness in NZ which didn’t show much, but he’s big enough to be an effective 6 and can also play 7.

He can cover 6 at a pinch too. Was it Link who tried him there?

I think they missed the boat a bit persisting with LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto).

I reckon they got excited because kickers pretty much never tackle. It wasn’t like he flailed out an arm in a half hearted attempt. He nailed the guy..........even if he is only 77 kg it was pretty impressive. Don’t think the Wallabies will be naming him on Friday.
