    Waratahs 2022

There's an element of Whetton with the way that Timani has been playing this year; massive body but has been pretty ineffective bending the line and moving bodies at rucks (although he is probably better in the set piece).

Cummins would be okay if you could get him a decent (read: bargain) price. He's a Sydney- lad and would be a serviceable starter from day one, whilst you develop and manage the workload of Douglas and Williams over the next couple of seasons.

    Australian Rugby / RA

But let’s continue with this delusional brand new competition with multiple teams in Sydney and Brisbane. Let’s make sure we cover Adelaide and Darwin too for a real tribal and national flavour!

    Australian Rugby / RA

Rugby is in no position to do anything ambitious at this stage- we are in a consolidate/ survive point in time. Let’s wait until we get some money in the coffers.

    Australian Rugby / RA

We've tried to make the Shute Shield a legitimate third tier through the ARC/ NRC and it hasn't worked. You can't elevate and leverage the existing Shute Shield structure and expect it to be sustainable - the clubs couldn't functionally scale and their catchment is too small for widespread...

Super Rugby AU Rd 9 Force v Waratahs

It's funny how perceptions of players evolve when they change jerseys - it wasn't long ago when Cubelli and Kuridrani were world beaters.

    Waratahs 2022

(Sorry not directly related but worth a rant that we should have expectations)

    Waratahs 2022

At the same time this is the top echelon of professional sport and pressure/ scrutiny comes with the territory (and rightly so). I've always seen rugby as being far less ruthless with its standards/ player retention than the other professional football codes from both the media, fans and...

Super Rugby RD 9 Rebels v Brumbies

One thing Campbell Magnay cannot do is ball play (or stay on the field for consecutive matches).

    Waratahs 2022

Oh that's right he was a very average player; he wasn't the face of Australian rugby or leading metrics like line breaks and tries scored across the Australian teams. He was by far the most dangerous ball-runner Australian rugby has had in close to a decade (he wasn't just a finisher either-...

    SRAU RD 8 - Reds v Brumbies

I get it but sometimes you want athletes and footballers - that's generally where the All Blacks get it right.

    Waratahs 2022

Completely untrue - he was solid and would have become close to world class. Terrible is how you describe some of the 13s that have been running around for the 'tahs in 2020.

    Waratahs 2022

You can mitigate the risk of signing a dud league player in obvious ways though; 1. Have they played and excelled at union before 2. Are they currently in the upper echelons of league when you sign them Crichton ticks both those boxes; the failed ones (e.g. Moeroa) generally don't

    Waratahs 2022

Folau would have been a fantastic 13 had he been given the opportunity. The only reason he didn't play there was because he was literally too good under the high ball and teams didn't want to sacrifice that strength.

    Wallabies 2021

Think his hands might be a little bit suspect...

    Wallabies 2021

He plays quite tight at the Reds currently, although he still needs to improve his subtlety and footwork in his attack. He's not going to dominate on the international stage (and this was demonstrated last year) if he doesn't move on from his Sam Burgess- inspired kamikaze running.

    Wallabies 2021

Latu's priority should be to focus on himself and his rehabilitation. Now obviously Sydney, where he has a strong family and social network, would be the best location to do this. As for blacklisted offences; domestic violence and homophobia seem to be where Rugby Australia actually draws the...

    Waratahs 2021

Taqele was definitely a character. He was unstoppable when in form but just as frequently the worst player on the field, with a literal inability to turn around to chase, bad defence and terrible decision-making.

    SRAU RD 8 - Reds v Brumbies

MK's workrate is exceptional and he is a great athlete, however at the same time there is a certain awkwardness to nearly everything he does. His passing and kicking does not look remotely natural.

    Rebels 2022

He was contracted for more than 3 years so was definitely given a pretty good opportunity. He was still fairly limited after all that time.
